Q. I have users with MAIDES profile entry set to VMSMAIL. User encounters a problem answering a message with second class priority. The answer from VMSMAIL goes to the ALL-IN-1 VMS account, rather than to the account that sent the message. If I change the MAIDES to ALL-IN-1 and set auto-forwarding to the VMS account, answering second class priority mail is successfully sent to the original sender. Is this an error within ALL-IN-1, or is this the way it's suppose to happen? Is this due to the fact that the Sender batch job runs under an ALL-IN-1 process? Why does the answer work correctly, if MAIDES reflects ALL-IN-1 and auto-forwarding is set to VMS? Thanks... Bill

This behaviour has been discussed in this conference within the past few months so you might be able to find more information about it by doing a DIRECTORY of the topics. You have corrected determined the root of the cause of the behaviour being that the Sender is running in the context of the ALL-IN-1 account. Mail which goes directly to VMSmail does so by invoking the MAIL DCL command in the subprocess. There is no good choice for handling Second Class mail in this situation other than the one you have taken. My guess is that you actually used MRGATE to provide the bridge between ALL-IN-1 and VMSmail. By doing so, the actual ALL-IN-1 address string is maintained so that the answered mail can find the proper sender. Had you forwarded the mail via the "_node::account" format you would have obtained the same undesired behaviour. Have fun, don | |||||
