    Hello,
    
      The PC option fails complaining about "mismatched software
    prerequisites" "NO" to all optional software. FMS is V2.4.
    
      The last question asked was the dialect code,then
    
       %A1LUS-I-CHKFMSV, Checking VAX/FMS version
       %A1LUS-I-CHKLIBS, Checking required language dependent shareable
                         libraries
       %A1LUS-I-CHKLNAM, Checking ALL-IN-1 logical names
    
       %A1LUS-I-CHKDISK, Checking  DISK SPACE
    
    * Which device will hold ALL-IN-1 lexicon files    [sys$sysdevice:]
    
      NO missing disk space prerequisite discovered.
    
      All checkd have been completed. THis installation will now terminate
      due to mis-matched software prerequisites. Please correct all
             ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
       reported problems...........
    
      Which software could it be complaining ?

      The only (error ?) if you can call it an error, was about the DNS$RTL
    not installed and gives you a chance to correct the error anyway.
    Other than that no errors.

     Something is not right. I just have another customer actual install.
     Fresh install, new system nothing but VMS v5.5,all pre-reqs are
     installed and somewhere along, exactly same error message.
       THIS INSTALLATION FAILED BECAUSE OF SOFTWARE PRE-REQUISITE
    MIS-MATCH.
       It does'nt give any hint as to which software. Going back to the log
    there are no indication of any fatal error except images that has to be
    installed and sysgen parameters.
     
      They're really *&^*. THey tried several times already, no go.
       This is a BRITISH lang installation. I need help fast please..

    Assuming you've fixed all the stuff in the log...
    
    It's not DNS$SHARE not being installed /PROT is it? I don't have any
    better guesses than that or restarting the installation with OPTIONS D
    on.
    
    Sorry - if that's no help why not call Atlanta - i'm sure they have
    someone here all night! - oh its me so maybe not (:==:)

Hi Ricardo,

Looking at the log extracts that you supplied it looks to me as if the install-
ation is behaving itself as expected.

For example in SYSGEN_IMAGES.TXT:-

This is a PC run or Full installation option ( I can tell that because the code
to check that ALL-IN-1 has been shut down was not executed ).  In this log you 
are told that the DNS$* images are not installed, and you are given a chance to 
correct the problem which you did.  You are then told that there arn't enough 
GBLSECTIONS or GBLPAGES on your system, you can't correct this without a 
reboot therefore the installation can't let you fix it but you are given the
choice of continuing the pre-checks:-

    Your installation will fail.  You may either continue to check
    system parameters, or you can exit the installation to correct
    the problem.

You continue.  However, the installation has remembered the mismatch of GBLSECs
and GBLPAGES and at the end of all the language independent checks it gives you
another choice:-

    This installation will fail due to mismatched software prerequisites
    However, you may continue and check the language dependent system
    parameters, and the DISK SPACE requirements before the installation
    procedure terminates.  Otherwise, stop the installation here and
    correct the reported problems before starting again.

You then abort the installation.

I think the problem is that you do not consider the problem with not having
enough GBLPAGES and GBLSECTIONS to be a "mismatched software prerequisite".
What we mean by "mismatched software prerequisite" is that the installation
checks have found something wrong with your system, either some prerequisite
software is missing or system parameters or disk space values are insufficent. 
In other words there is a mismatch in what the installation requires 
( prerequisite for ALL-IN-1 )and what your system has available.

The same problems occur in the log SYSGEN_ONLY.TXT, however this time you choose
to continue to do the language dependent checks.  At the end of these the 
installation aborts because of the GBLSECTIONS, GBLPAGES mismatch.

The SHUT_A1.TXT log does not show any errors, but there must have been some
before this stage was reached other wise the message:-

    This installation will fail due to mismatched software prerequisites....

would not have been displayed.  Take another look at the full log.
