1126.0. "Moving from one disk to another?" by KERNEL::LOAT (Bored....Bored....BORED!!!!) Mon Jul 27 1992 16:02

    A customer has installed ALL-IN-1 3.0 and its been working for a while,
    but now, due to some shuffling around on their system, they need to
    move their entire ALL-IN-1 system.

    I've looked at the 3.0 installation guide, and the little section which
    used to be in the 2.4 guide (Base Kit installation guide, appendix D)
    which told you how you could move your ALL-IN-1 system has disappeared.

    I can supply him with this information, but what else needs to be done?

    Has anyone out there got any guidelines for moving a 3.0 system from
    one disk to another, or will the old 2.4 instructions be enough?

    Steve.

    Steve,

    No the old instructions won't be enough and I didn't see a STARS article
    on it yet - so here's your chance to write one and gain fame and
    fortune.

    One thing that might catch you is CM+ because the old instructions
    don't cater for the root and siteroot of the OA Application needing
    to be updated in CM$APP and CM$MAF .

    Don't know about the FileCabServer stuff but i'm sure it's in Terry's
    book.

    It sure is a pity that the section got lost from the book because it
    means more calls to the CSC - let's hope it's restored in a PFR.

1126.2ReseedIOSG::TALLETTArranging bits for a living...Mon Jul 27 1992 19:156

    	If you move any filecabs then you'll need to reseed the partition.
    	That is certainly new in V3.0

    Paul
1126.3Looks like thats all.KERNEL::LOATBored....Bored....BORED!!!!Tue Jul 28 1992 15:3222

    Well, apart from the old 2.4 instructions, I think I'll need to change
    the data in the following files

    CM$AUTH$LOCATIONS
    CM$APP
    CM$MAF

    by using the entry forms witht the same name. I can't see anything in
    the FileCabServer stuff to change (unless anyone knows differently 8-])
    and the customer will be moving the ALL-IN-1 system accounts, so I'll
    get him to re-seed the PARTITION.DAT file.

    As far as I've been able to see, thats all, so I don't think it was as
    complicated as I first thought.

    ...unless you know different...

    Thanx for the ideas

    Steve.

1126.4Info now in Management GuideIOSG::RWILKSMon Aug 17 1992 15:3614
    The information has been moved from the Installation Guide to the
    ALL-IN-1 Management Guide, Chapter 5, Section 5.2.5, Moving an
    ALL-IN-1 Area to Another Disk.

    The reason for moving this information is that the information is
    needed after installation as part of on-going ALL-IN-1 management and
    therefore does not belong in an installation guide.

    Apologies if this has caused confusion.

    Regards,

1126.5But they don't workAIMTEC::WICKS_AIt wasn't supposed to end this wayMon Aug 17 1992 17:5811
    Elaine,

    Sorry but those instructions don't work in v3.0 as you need to cater
    for the CM$APP and CM$MAF stuff which is not catered for by just
    editing A1CONFIG.

    P.S Section 5.2.4 should say VAX NOTES v2.2
