Hello, I have a client who has just added 10 new shared mail directories. This brings the total for that mail area (only one in use) to 35 directories. What he wants to do is spread the files accross all the directories in the area, then close the area and start fresh in a new one. The problem is that niether Balance Mail Areas or Reoganize Shared Directories is having the desired effect. He has a plan which will reduce the size of the .DIR files, if he can spread the files in them more evenly. Can the file in the directories be redistributed? Derek Street.

The short answer is no. There isn't any functionality to do this. It would be relatively hard to do, because you'd have to go and find all the pointers to the documents you'd moved and rewrite them, because the shared area forms part of the name. The normal method is to make a lot of new shared areas, close all the old ones, and wait for a bit. Encourage your users to delete old messages during this period. Then compress the directories.
