A customer has an ALL-IN-1 system physically located in the EST time zone. Some of the users are in EST some in CST and PST. The customer would like to help the users in CST and PST time zones feel as if the system were in the same time zone as the user, especially when reading/sending mail. We talked about setting a flag in the user's profile and then checking and adjusting in places like MAILMEMOx.BLP. Any other ideas? Thanks, Angela

Angela, ALL-IN-1 already has support for this. You need to change the time zone record from the System Managers Manage Messaging Menu. You firstly need to decided on a common network time and then add the time zone record for each node. The time zone record containe the difference from the network time. (Can't remeber whether you need a + or - hours though. I do know its the opposite of the time zone record in Message Router though!) The affect of having a time-zone record is that end-users will see the dates on mail messages as if they had been created in their own time-zone and not that of the senders. So for, example if I create a mail message right now in the UK and send it to someone in the States they will see it as being created 6:40am local time instead of 11:40am my time. The time zone record in this case should be set to +or- 5 hours. Hope this makes senses. Remember to log out/in of ALL-IN-1 after changing the time zone record. HTH, Kevin | |||||

I had a customer with this situation. He changed the boilerplate to say "Eastern" and removed the time zone field. I believe that time zone is a local symbol (#ZONE) You could set it for each user *after* the MAIL INIT function. I might just remove it completely and make people assume that it was local time. A final option would be to put some processing into the boilerplate to compute the value of the time displayed in local mode. Ben |
