1079.0. "OA-W-DSKACPERR - Storage Device Resource unavail." by KERNEL::SMITHERSJ (Living on the culinary edge....) Mon Jul 20 1992 17:41

Customer is running 2.4 ALL-IN-1 and one user has reported the
following error when printing mail messages (all mail messages).

%OA-E-MRGFNF, error opening merge file BEA000076.WPL,
    Gold W
%OA-W-DSKACPERR Storage Device Resource not available - see
    System Manager

From the WP menu gives a similar error "Error copying file "".

Note 2519 in the _v23 conference suggested a problem with the
user's editor in profile or directory. I have checked quotering,
he has quota available on his user disk, and the other 3 disks
do not have quotering enabled. His profile looks OK with no
    strange editor or directory location.

The printer is spooled to DUA0: and this disk has loads of space
(as have the other 3) and is mounted and available. The mail
message itself can be read and is in the correct location. Other
people can print that mail message. It looks like the problem
is when the document gets made into a temporary file - but why
I don't know. His A1.dir is 381/381 blocks which seems large
    but not excessive?

A trace just shows the error after #print_listfile which is the
    BEA00076.WPL.

Why can't a temporary file be created in his sub-directory? Even
though the customer has /retain_on_error on his formatter queue
and the print queue (a LN03), the job does not reach the queue
and does not leave the listfile in his A1 directory. However,
he can create and edit and copy VMS files in that directory.

There is something glaringly obvious I have missed - but
    I don't what. Help!

    Thanks

1079.2Guessing....IOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeWed Jul 22 1992 17:3321
I looked this message up in my mesage file cross reference, and I don't
think it's used, so I'd be interested to know which bit of code is
    signalling this error!!

    Anyway, SWAG coming up:

It "must" be something wrong with the either the user's device, or the
mail shared area device if it's a mail message that's being printed.

Check the device in the user's profile and see if it's: got quota for
this user, it's not full, it hasn't run out of file headers (create a
big file on it from the user's account) is online and isn't broken!

Similarly, look (using SH) at the mail message and see what directory
it's on. See if the logical is defined properly (/EXEC and to the right
place) and do the same checks on the disc.

Course if it's an attachment to the message, then it gets more
    complex...

Don't disk logicas also need to be defined /TRANS=(CONCEAL,TERMINAL)
just like the way $ MOUNT does ?

    Hi there!

    >Don't disk logicas also need to be defined /TRANS=(CONCEAL,TERMINAL)
    >just like the way $ MOUNT does ?

Another SWAG. Did you know that the logicals MOUNT creates
are different from anything you can create from DCL or using
system services? Mount does some "magic".

See what logical names are in use and where they came from.

Hi,

The dskacperr has been seen before, see note 2519.0 from the old v2.3
conference. It has a reply that states the modules where the message
can come out from. The suggestions in there have been checked and still
the customer says he has a problem.
Can anyone else come up with some suggestions on why this should be occuring?
Thanks for your responses.
