1041.0. "Printing to an LN06, word wrap, pitch, underlines missing" by GIDDAY::SETHI (Man from Downunder) Tue Jul 14 1992 04:57

    G'day,

The WPS-PLUS conference is still unavailable and I have a pressing
problem to solve. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The customer has just installed a number of LN06's as a replacement for
the LN03's. The documents they were printing on the LN03's no longer
    format correctly on the LN06.

The following problems are experienced when they select DECLASER or
LN03 as the format styles. A copy of the .WPL can be found in:

    	{RIPPER|GIDDAY}::USER$TSC:[SETHI.Q63018]ZUEBGQ0U1.WPL

    This is a Landscape document.

    1. When the user prints this to the LN06 using the DECLASER format they
       get the document wrapping.

    2. Using the LN03 style they get they same problem but the
       letters/characters remain the same size.

I asked them to change the pitch to 14, top and bottom margins to 1.
Now the lines they have drawn fit onto the one page but the
    letters/characters remain the same size.

On other documents they have the right hand side of the document missing
for a portrait document when they print to the LN06, using DECLASER as
the format style. Same problem if they choose LN03 as the format style
but letters/characters remain the same size.

In some cases the underlines are missing when the documents are
printed. Basically the problems boildown to text wrapping the pitch
not being correct. One of the documents has a Right Margin of 145 and
prints okay on the LN03 but not LN06.

Any suggestions would be most welcome. I will cross post this in the
WPS-PLUS conference, as soon as it's available. Does anyone know what
has happened to the conference ?

    Thanks for your help

    Sunil

1041.2Problem solved GIDDAY::SETHIMan from DownunderTue Jul 21 1992 09:3825
    G'day,

I have managed to get to the bottom of all of this. The DECLASER.PRA
provided for ALL-IN-1 and WPS-PLUS will work on most documents under
WPS-PLUS 3.1. However it cannot guaranteed that it will always work.

Now that we have a working version of ALL-IN-1 version 3.0 I took the
liberty of copying over the .WPL and printing it. The document printed
    with the required underlining etc.

In the Stars article called "WPS-PLUS/VMS V3.1: Lack of Support for LN05 and
LN06 DEClaser Printers", it's stated as follows

"WPS-PLUS engineering has indicated that these printers should work
fairly well with one of these products if the LN03 printer table (Format
Style) is used." The word to lach onto is "fairly". If a customer
installs K604 and K605 patches this will solve his problem on a 2.4
system or upgrade to Version 3.0.

One hint some customer's are not carrying out the post installation
tasks. These tasks create data files like WPSSHEET and DATASPELL etc.

I was getting a bit desperate the customer was breathing down my neck.
