1035.0. "ALL-IN-1 V3.0 "Drawer Problem"" by XCUSME::TRAYNOR () Mon Jul 13 1992 18:37

    "Drawer" problem in ALL-IN-1 V3.0

      Looking for input or procedure on Renaming JUST the VMS username/
    directory NOT the ALL-IN-1 profile. I have 2 users with the same
    lastname (diff first names..) on the same system. One account is
    just "lastname" the other is "lastname_initial".. e.g. DOE and DOE_S.
    I want to rename DOE to DOE_M --reason being DOE_S complaining that
    DOE is receiving his Vaxmail.. A simple task? not quite..

    Here's what I did - I renamed the DOE account to DOE_M at the VMS
    Level (UAF and directory structure), and modified the ALL-IN-1 profile
    and made the necessary changes there. I "thought" I could change the
    owner of the Drawer, but couldn't. Changed the account back. So,
    I decided to utilize the RNA option in ALL-IN-1 and although I did not
    want to change the profile name, i did and entered the "new" VMS name.
    It renamed the account , so I proceeded to rename the profile back and
    "Skip" the VMS field (to retain the username I wanted..)
    Well, after logging into the user's account and into ALL-IN-1 I could
    no longer view his file cabinet and received the error - "Error
    setting drawer logical". Again, I changed the account back to its
    original state thinking everything would be fine, but I still received
    the above error. It seemed like it was probably a pointer problem
    somewhere and the account got messed up.

      Given the advice from a few technical people, I restored
    OA$DATA:PARTITION.DAT from the previous night's backup. The account
    was fine after that.

      I still need to accomplish what I set out to do. Is there a hidden
    option in ALL-IN-1 to do this or a workaround ? Any help would be
    greatly appreciated!!

      Thanks alot!   /Judy

1035.1re-seed the partition for this user.\CHRLIE::HUSTONMon Jul 13 1992 20:238

    Did you re-seed the changed users partition entry? One of the fields
    in the partition record is the VMS directory that the drawer lives in.
    I know the drawer name wouldn't have changed, but this field would
    have.

1035.2Edit User?AIMTEC::WICKS_ADEC Mail Works for ME sometimesMon Jul 13 1992 20:409
    Judy,

    Out of interest why didn't you use Edit USer to change the VMS account
    details - rename user is a bit of an overkill for that - and then do
    the VMS stuff down at VMS level.

    	You still need to re-seed, even for edit user. I guess there ought
    	to be a MUA menu option to reseed.

    I did the command you showed and get the following message:

    Please check the log file SYS$MANAGER:OAFC$SERVER.LOG but there is
    no new file getting created.

    It looks like I had one user fail.

    Thanks in advance,

1035.8FileCab ServerIOSG::TALLETTGimmee an Alpha colour notebook...Thu Nov 26 1992 10:158

    	Seeding uses the FileCab Server, and the command OAFC talks to
    	the FileCab Server too. See if you have an object 73 in NCP,
    	check OAFC$*.LOG for errors, try starting the server manually
    	and see what it doesn't like.

    Paul
1035.9No filecab object hereKYOA::LAZARUSKYOA Technical usersFri Nov 27 1992 07:544
    I have no such object in my NCP database. Should I create one? Why
    didn't the install create one?

    What do you mean by starting the server manually?

    Nop. The server creates the object. No server, no object.

> What do you mean by starting the server manually?

    Cut / paste from old note (from Bob H):

    " To get more information you can start the server directly from your
        process. Do the following:

        $ srv :== $sys$system:oafc$server
        $ srv p1

        where p1 is the name of your server configuration file, probably
        oa$data_share:server_config.dat.

        Check sys$manager:oafc$server.log and
        sys$manager:oafc$server_error.log"

    Hope thsi helps,

    Re last few.

    Thank you for your comments. Whenever possible,I try to get my answers
    from Notesfiles.

    I have read quite a few notes and this is what I've done:

    I created a filecabinet server on two other nodes in my cluster,using
    SM MFC MS. Then I ran the seed procedure and created the user's main
    drawer.

    Unfortunately the user stillhas an empty filecab.dat file so I won't
    know until his next login whether he can see his files.

    As you can probably realize,I am not experienced at ALL-IN-1 system
    management.
