993.0. "No MAIN drawer" by LEMAN::PUNKIE::REGINA (Carrie's in the carrot land) Mon Jul 06 1992 17:52

We had our V3.0 upgrade this weekend. There is one user who has

	* No drawer main
	* a drawer PRINCIPAL
	* an empty FILECAB.DAT
	* one drawer structure [user.a1] (PRINCIPAL is pointing there)

The user says he has not done anything special. He can't access his mail.

Would a complete backup of his account (just in case), delete of his
PRINCIPAL drawer, recreation of MAIN and eventually restore of his files
be enough, or is a recreation of his account better?

Any other suggestions?
Thanks/rhr

    	If the user has FRENCH as his language, then his drawer is
    	*supposed* to be called PRINCIPAL (after all, you can see the
    	name in the UI, right?)

    	Are you saying we didn't seed the FILECAB.DAT when he first
    	entered ALL-IN-1??

    	The fact that he doesn't have a drawer called MAIN is nothing
    	special. He *MUST* have a drawer with the default flag set or
    	mail will probably go wrong.

    	Would this be a TeamLinks user? I think it is easy to get into
    	this situation with BL8 TeamLinks and ALL-IN-1 V3.0 SSB.

993.2PRINCIPAL not ok for usLEMAN::PUNKIE::REGINACarrie's in the carrot landTue Jul 07 1992 09:1313
Paul,

PRINCIPAL is not ok. It seems his language field was FRENCH (don't
ask me why, we have always been running ALL-IN-1 US!).

This would explain why it happened. Now I just want to make sure
that the correct steps are taken to get him back to MAIN.

Does s.o. have some bright ideas?

Thanx in advance/rhr

993.3Should do the trickIOSG::STANDAGEOink...Oink...MoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooTue Jul 07 1992 09:5531

    rhr,

    Firstly, change his language field in the profile from FRENCH to
    whatever it should be !

    I *think* all you'll need to do is re-seed the PARTITION.DAT with the
    correct information.

    To do this, enter ALL-IN_1 from the managers account and do the
    following :

    	<GET #OAFC_SEED_USER = "<the ALL-IN-1 username you wish to fix>"
     	<DO OA$LIB:OAFC$PART_SEED

    Afterwards, check the partition seeding log in:

        OA$LOG:OAFC$PART_SEED.LOG

    ...which should contain a single entry for the specific user you've
    attempted to seed.

    *Hopefully*, that should put things right....

    Kevin.

    	You still don't say *WHY* PRINCIPAL is not okay for you. What's
    	in a name? :-)

    	I don't think re-seeding is the answer, you will still have
    	the "ghost" of PRINCIPAL hanging around. Try this:

    	Correct the users language in the PROFIL so that you won't get
    	this problem coming back.

    	SM MFC MD (Manage Drawers)

    	SEL

    	Drawer Name: [user]PRINCIPAL

    	REM (this "un-seeds" the partition, removing the record)

    	MP (to go to Manage Partitions [don't ask!])

    	ADD

    	[user]MAIN

    	You know the rest (Enabled = Y, Mail = Y)

    	Now make sure no-one has this user's FILECAB.DAT open (SHOW
    	DEV/FILES) and RENAME it (effectively deleting it).

    	Now when you enter ALL-IN-1, you should get a MAIN record added
    	to a newly created FILECAB.DAT (assuming the language is now correct).

    	Let us know...

Ok, thanks for all your hints on how to proceed correctly.

in the meantime I cured it the rude way, delete account, recreate, copy back
(except FILECAB).

I guess in some weeks I know best how to fiddle around with partitions...

Still, I wonder why his FILECAB.DAT was empty. I will try this
on of the other clusters we have to do to see if it is reproducable
when language is FRENCH.

Best regards
