975.0. " Downloading fonts to an LN03" by GIDDAY::SETHI (Man from Downunder) Thu Jul 02 1992 03:35

    G'day All,

    I have entered this in the WPS-PLUS conference note number 666 (the
    devils own number !!!).

    Copy of the note.

    ***************************************************************************

    A customer has an LN03 installed with extra RAM but NO FONT
    cartridges. He has just received Version 3.0 of ALL-IN-1.

    The customer wants to make use of the various founts that are
    available with WPS-PLUS and DECpage if possible.

    We tried doing the following at the CSC but got nowhere by sending
    down an escape sequence <ESC>P0;0;1yAMGR;AMGR<ESC>\

    Currently if the customer tries to print the document with a font
    he get blobs on the print out. I tried doing the same here and get the
    same results if I insert the cartridge all is fine.

    The question I like to ask is how do we download founts for WPS-PLUS
    from the host machine to the LN03 (non-PostScript) printer ? Please
    do not forget he does not have cartridge capabilities on his LN03.

    The reply to my question suggested the following:

    You need to do two things:

            1. Download the font
            2. Selcet/activate the font when needed.

    To do the first thing, you can define a KEYWORD like:

            down_fontname   <INC=fontfile.ext>

    where fontfile is SIXEL file contains prefix and suffix (to tell the
    printer that following data is a font) and the font itself.
            prefix => <ESC>P0;1;1y
            suffix => <ESC>\

    When you use this keyword in WPS-PLUS control block the font will be
    downloaded to the printer and from now you can use this font as other
    built-in fonts (obviously, you need to define this font in your PRA with
    the right activation esc seq.).

    You can do it in other way, just add the "<INC=fontfile.ext>" in front
    of font activation seq in the pra (this will cause downloading every time
    you choose this font).

            Hope it will help you,

    B.T.W: I'll be out for the next 5 weeks so I'll can't answer more
    questions untill I'll be back.

     You can do both in

    I have tried doing what has been suggested but have had no luck. What I
    have done so far:

        Created a file and printed it the file contained the following

        <ESC>P1;1;1y<INC=SYS$LOGIN:DECLOGO.SIX><ESC>\

    I defined it in the .PRA file and got nothing when I selected the
    font.

    In the .PRA I did the following TEST <INC=SYS$LOGIN:DECLOGO.SIX>

    If anyone in this conference has downloaded fonts to the LN03 I would
    be really grateful for your help or suggestions.

    Thanks

    Sunil
