959.0. "Support time:IOS vs A1Mail" by CGOOA::ANDREWS (blue sky plus wings) Mon Jun 29 1992 23:27

I have a customer who is considering moving from A1Mail to IOS. His
quiestion is: how do the ongoiong staff support times compare between
these 2 products. They have about 700 users and now they have one
person part time supporting the A1Mail function. How much support time
    is required for IOS?
    Thanks,
    Gord

Obviously, there is no great answer to this sort of question.

ALL-IN-1 IOS is FAR larger than is that other mail only product. To
properly implement ALL-IN-1 IOS it should be molded around the needs of
the 700 clients at the site. This isn't necessary but highly desirable
for the clients. Providing more service almost always equates to the
    need for more support requirements.

The exact support requirements vary widely from site to site. I know
of a few 500 to 700 sites which have between .5 and 5 support people.
The larger ones roll their training and call desk folks into the figure
which is a good idea in my view. I also know of one site in Southern
Carolina who have 3 support people for 20,000 clients.

The bottom line is that the one person can probably handle running
ALL-IN-1 IOS with roughly the same level of effort. The most important
thing for this person to do, of course, is to learn about what it is
that ALL-IN-1 IOS is all about. There are many technical details but
the attitude is the most important thing.

ALWAYS place the needs of the clients first.

    Have fun,
    don
