| I would say he's got some other batc job running.
Maybe it's ALL-IN-1 Personal Assistant (APA), or one of the PC
connection packages that "mailbags" all your IOS mail and sends it to
the PC.

| Graham,
They don't have APA, but maybe your second alternative might be
something, since apparently he uses a PC. Since I'm not familiar
with PC's, could you expand: Has this something to do with running
ALL-IN-1 Desktop for DOS, or is it just a forwarding from ALL-IN-1
to some mail functionality on the PC?
But a batch job? It seems this happens immediately when the mail
arrives.
BTW, it seems this problem turned up after they started using
DEC Mailworks (which I don't know anything about either..)
Could that be a clue?
Since the user has now gone on vacation, and the one calling in is
not familiar with the PC side either, we don't quite know what to
look for even if we can log into the account. Maybe we'll just
have to leave it till the user is back (and I'm on vacation ;-)

951.3 | Don't know details, but Desktop sounds favourite! | IOSG::PYE | Graham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's Apprentice | Mon Jun 29 1992 14:53 | 13 |
| Hans,
I'm not sure of the details. Perhaps someone else will come in here
shortly.
I know the Desktop for DOS has a mailbagger, so that might fit. I don't
know what causes the mail bagger to run, perhaps it's a regular bacth
job, or perhaps it's done with an ALL-IN-1 special mail destination
that's causing the mail to get "read".
It's been discussed here before.

951.4 | Sounds like a good possibility... | SHALOT::NICODEM | Avoid traffic; leave work at noon | Mon Jun 29 1992 22:41 | 8 |
| When using the ALL-IN-1 DESKtop for DOS, the user can choose to have mail
reside on the ALL-IN-1 host (as it does normally), or immediately transferred
to the PC. In the former case, unread mail will reside in INBOX; in the latter
case, it will immediately be considered "Read".
Check the user's setup options in DESKtop for DOS.

| Well, since the user is on vacation, I have told them about the
ALL-IN-1 Desktop thing, and closed the call for now. If they
still have problems when he's back, they'll let us know.
Thanks,
Hans

951.8 | it can disappear without a trace | AIMTEC::ZANIEWSKI_D | Why would CSC specialists need training? | Wed Jul 01 1992 22:50 | 7 |
| With v1.1 of the ALL-IN-1 DESKtop Server for VMS, the system
manager can choose what folder to refile the documents into. If
this choice is WASTEBASKET and your housekeeping runs on a regular
basis, mail will appear to disappear. (I'm not 100% sure about
v1.0)
