839.0. "name searches" by NCBOOT::HARRIS (oooppps) Tue Jun 09 1992 19:56

here's a strange one - (but then aren't they all)

a 3 node cluster, ALl-IN-1 2.4 no patches. when on the EMHEAD screen on
NODEA, enter a users name, it comes back with 3 possibles
    ____________________________________________________________________________
Select an addressee from the following:

     1 BOIKE, MICHAEL J. ( Michael J Boike )
     2 BOIKE, MICHAEL J VAXMAIL ( BOIKE, MICHAEL J VAXMAIL )
     3 BOIKE, MICHAEL J. @A1 @ORION ( BOIKE, MICHAEL J. )
    ____________________________________________________________________________

when i'm on NODEB (of the same cluster) the same entry comes back with
    just:
    ____________________________________________________________________________
Select an addressee from the following:

         1 BOIKE, MICHAEL J. ( Michael J Boike )
         2 BOIKE, MICHAEL J VAXMAIL ( BOIKE, MICHAEL J VAXMAIL )
    ____________________________________________________________________________

The difference being that the name is treated as a local user only on
NODEB of the cluster. NODEC of the same cluster works like NODEB.
I've got the 2 traces, if anyone needs to see those (or parts of them).

    		TIA - Ann

839.1Look at user in PROFILE and NETWORKIOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeTue Jun 09 1992 20:1010
See what the user has got in their PROFILE and NETWORK records. If one
of them has got a node name in then that could be the problem.

Perhaps the node that behaves differently is the one that's in
    OA$PRIMARY_NODE or not.

Someone cleverer than me will probably give you exactly what to look
for, but this might enable you to spot it!

    Ann,

Are both of entries 2 and 3 in the first case coming out of NETWORK,
if so the third is probably getting manipulated by a neat bit of mail
addressing code when it matches node names

how much of the username did you type did you press RETURN or FIND

where are all the red cards?

    Graham and ANdrew,

it was a simple as OA$PRIMARY_NODE not being defined properly. seems
someone here (not me!) deleted teh DECNET database last week and it
didn't get created properly. i was out yesterday, so they left this
    problem til i came back.

    >>how much of the username did you type did you press RETURN or FIND
      	i typed the name BOIKE

    >>where are all the red cards?
      	in my hot little hands!

    	thanks for the help! ann
