831.0. "A1V3 install - missing images" by BAHTAT::63778::SYSTEM () Mon Jun 08 1992 19:31
I have tried installing ALL-IN-1 (V3.0) on the BPS system (Business
Protection Service) for a demo in the morning. It has failed. Note - it
failed AFTER all the checks were ok, and AFTER 2 hours...
This is the final message of death from the installation procedure:-
Installing the ALL-IN-1 File Cabinet Server
This installation provides the File Cabinet Server startup file
OAFC$STARTUP.COM into SYS$STARTUP. This file starts a server as a
detached process.
The File Cabinet Server startup is run by A1V30START.COM
Installing ALL-IN-1 Group Conferencing
Installing WPL-DDIF CDA converter files
%A1-I-EPCFACPROV, Providing DECtrace Facility Definition File
Installing the Linguistics Components Interface
Installing the Linguistics Components Interface
%A1-I-A1LINK, Starting to link images
Building shared image modules
Error in secondary activation:
%SYSTEM-F-PROTINSTALL, protected images must be installed
%A1-E-RETRY1, Please correct any reported problems before attempting
%A1-E-RETRY2, to install ALL-IN-1.
%VMSINSTAL-E-INSFAIL, The installation of A1 V3.0 has failed.
%DELETE-W-FILNOTDEL, error deleting
$1$DUA7:[SYS0.SYSUPD.A1030]A1LINK.OPT;1
-RMS-E-FLK, file currently locked by another user
What image is the above worried about? The DNS type images are
installed correctly (identically to those on my VAXstation - that is
currently running ALL-IN-1 V3.0 perfectly happily).
In the installation, I said no to DTR, yes to WPSplus and no to ACMS.
Any help as usual will be appreciated

831.1 | Options D will tell you | AIMTEC::WICKS_A | Liverpool win the F.A Cup again! | Mon Jun 08 1992 21:09 | 19 |
| Andy,
It shouldn't be DNS this time (for a change) since it failed at a point
where it is building the deferred image activation stubs such as
OACONVSHR etc etc...
You really have two choices.
1) repeat the install with OPTIONS D so that you can see where it is
failing.
2) switch off deferred image activation (A1$DEFER) but as the install
deassigns all symbols you'd have to hack (customise) KITINSTAL.COM
to do it.
Obviously option 1 is safer - my money (17c) is on it being a VMS or
DECWINDOWS image.

831.2 | local symbols are ok? | MDCRAB::HOWARD | Our business is computers not money | Fri Jun 12 1992 05:34 | 9 |
| As I recall, local symbols work, so
$ A1$DEFER := whatever it is supposed to be
$ @VMSINSTAL
should work, unless KITINSTAL.COM deletes local symbols. Normally
VMSINSTAL only deassigns global symbols.

831.3 | Poss. problem with interactive logins? | KYOA::ERICKSEN | | Fri Jun 12 1992 20:25 | 7 |
| I seem to recall that when I was upgrading a system to ALL-IN-1 v2.4
and had set interactive logins to 0 I got a message complaining about a
file (when it was trying to link I believe). Could this be a
possibility? Once I set interactive logins higher I was able to
install okay.
