782.0. "Arrow keys problem with GOLD GET" by KERNEL::OTHENJ () Tue Jun 02 1992 13:21

Hi,

	ALL-IN-1 v2.3

I wonder if anyone can help me with a problem with ALL-IN-1 / DECterm
/ dlogin problem on a DECstation 5000 using a LK501-AH keyboard.

The customer is using dlogin to connect to a VMS machine which is
running ALL-IN-1. The customer finds that ALL-IN-1 works correctly until he
uses some entry forms.

e.g. when using GOLD G to get a document in , he types in DOC, and then
tries to use the down-arrow to get down to the document title field. The
information typed in is then over-riden on the folder field with spurious
text, and "Field Full" error (it basically get itself all confused!!)

The customer has also seen the problem when filling in details on
the PRINT form, as well as in WPS-PLUS/MATHS.

If the customer uses TAB instead of the arrow keys , it works
correctly.

The DECterm settings are O.K., and he does not get any problems
from any other products apart from ALL-IN-1.

They are currently applying a dlogin patch for Ultrix v4.2, but I
wondered if anyone else has seen a similar problem, and if there is
anything that can be done within ALL-IN-1 i.e. keyboard mapping?? If you
turn on tracing, no information is written to the log file at the time when
the problem occurs, so it does not look like an ALL-IN-1 problem, but I
wondered if anyone has seen this before, as I cannot reproduce it.

	Thanks for any help,

    Hi there!

Well I'll take a wild guess and suggest that something in the
chain of software is not handling the multi-character escape
sequence generated by the down-arrow key:

    	X-Server->DECterm->dlogin-> <network> ->REMACP->Terminal-Driver
    		     ^-------^
    			 !
    	I would point----+
    	the finger
    	about here.

Are you using DECterm or xterm ?? (DECterm would be better).

As a workaround, try creating a VMS DECterm with its display
set to your DS5000. I am fairly sure this will work.

Take a close look at the garbage you get when you press the
downarrow key and post it here, character for character. If
its got a [B in it, then that would suggest this problem.

    Regards,
    Paul
