739.0. "V3.0 Technical Q&A document" by SAC::JOYCE (Leaving... and I don't give a XXXX) Thu May 21 1992 15:12

    A few of us UK Office Specialists have put together a Technical
    Questions and Answers document about ALL-IN-1 V3.0. Topics it covers
    are

    	The new File Cabinet (Drawers et al)
    	Groups
    	Customisation Management
    	Programming
    	Installation

    It can be found in

    	SAC::FT$KITS:[ALLIN1V3]A1_V3_QA.PS

    I hope it's of some assistance.

    Regards,

    Andy Joyce

739.4Q&A for customer use?STKHLM::TCPC06::cjonssonWed Jun 03 1992 12:5213
Hi,

Is this a kind of document that I can give to our customers?

As we here in Sweden will have the next version v3.0 in a few months, I
would like to prepare our customers what's coming and what's new and
different, from a technical aspect. I appreciate any pointers to useful
doc's and information to distribute to the customers.

Best Regards

Carina Jonsson

    No. This document was prepared with a lot of hard work and grafting
    (nose to the grind-stone, late-nights etc etc).

    You can certainly SELL your time to the customer to help prepare him
    for future versions of software, and you can use this document to
    prepare yourself first.

    You can also (probably) SELL a document that describes what your
    customer needs to know with regard to ALL-IN-1 V3. Some of the
    information that you would want to put into your document might come
    from this source, and some might come from user differences etc etc.

    Hoi,

    I think 3.0 is a good opportunity to sell the
    "ALL-IN-1 IOS Technical Update Training".

    The Student Guide contains a good description of
    all the changes.

    I find the 3.0 documentation quit poor with regards
    to subjects like the impact of ACL's, Group Services,
    changes DDS search behaviour.

739.7Create a special update seminar?ARSNAL::41806::Tony RedmondThoughts of an Idle MindWed Jun 03 1992 17:4017
Carina,

It should also be possible to organize a full briefing for your customer
(the PTT - right?) at whatever level they like. We are arranging this sort
of service for a number of large customers. Basically what we do is select
some of the modules we deliver at the ATS and create a seminar around them.
Contact me if you want to explore this idea a little further.

I don't honestly see anything in the document that couldn't be shown to
customers. I'll also be very surprised if it doesn't find its way
(accidentially) onto a number of customer sites. Accidents do happen, like
documents jumping out of briefcases into photocopiers... I have ceased being
surprised when I meet customers who tell me that they have a copy of the
cookbook I wrote in 1987....

    The intention of the document was to give us (Digital office
    specialists) a head-start over our customers when V3.0 hits them. I
    don't know if it is the case in the rest of the world but in the UK we
    had woefully inadequate training on V3.0 differences. This document
    was merely an attempt to partially redress that. I don't know about
    you guys but I feel pretty silly when my customer knows more about V3.0
    than I do!

    If you give the document to customers then you are giving away your
    "added value". I take Tony's point that there is not much in the
    document that they couldn't find out anyway but we thought it would
    help to have *some* of the answers first.
