731.0. "Question re DT Wordperfect document into ALL-IN-1" by SAC::EDMUNDS (It's only life after all) Wed May 20 1992 21:50

I have a customer query regarding Wordperfect and ALL-IN-1: I have
little knowledge of either product, so please excuse my ignorance
here: I'm grateful for any help/guidance/pointers.

They have users with PCs that are running Pathworks to a VAX.
Wordperfect is served from the VAX, and the Wordperfect documents are
also stored on the VAX. What they want to be able to do is sethost to
the VAX and then DT the Wordperfect document from the VAX into ALL-IN-1
and retain attributes such as underlining and bolding. They do not want
to integrate Wordperfect into ALL-IN-1; rather they want to convert the
    document.

Questions: is this possible? Do the new CDA convertors due this summer
    help at all?

Thanks for any help on this.

731.1Try RVC and SVC optionsNEMAIL::BYRNEThe Red MenaceWed May 20 1992 22:3018
Try going to the Document Transfer Menu and doing an RVC (Receive
Without Conversion) on the Wordperfect document file. (You will
have to know the VMS name and location of the Wordperfect file).
The file will be pulled into the ALL-IN-1 file cabinet and treated
as foreign-formatted. (Note the .FGN extension on the file after it
is pulled in.) After that, you can attach it to a mail message and
mail it to other users, who can in turn file the attachment in their
file cabinets and do SVC (Send without conversion) to their own VMS
areas. They should take care to give an VMS file name and extension
appropriate for Wordperfect to the file they are exporting. Just
make sure that the document is always an ATTACHMENT if your users
    want to mail it.

You could automate this process if you wanted to to a little ALL-IN-1
programming. It would take a little work, but the customer would love
    it.

Thanks for the info. However, they want to convert the document to WPS
    - can that be done with the CDA convertors?

731.3CDA: No, KEYPAK: Yes!EEMELI::SALMINENHannu Salminen, PTG -FinlandFri May 22 1992 09:4210
As far as I know recent situation CDA has not a converter for
WP <-> WPS-PLUS conversions, CDA Converters are more for
converting between graphical formats. (Correct me if the situation
	is changed)

Direct translation between WPS-PLUS and WP format is possible
with KEYPAK converter (a third-party sw).

CDA also converts documents and tables (spreadsheets). DECwrite
V2 ships with a WPL front and backend. Third parties are working lots
    of formats.

Have a look at Note 1272.7 in the CDA conference for:

"All the CDA Converters in the world"

It does ? What version ? I thought you always had to go through
    DX format.

The DDIF<==>WPS-PLUS converter also ships with ALL-IN-1 V3.0

However without a corresponding wordperfect converter, it doesn't help
    (in this case) very much...

    Cheers,
        Paul.
