712.1 | The way it works | IOSG::MAURICE | A few follicles short | Tue May 19 1992 16:18 | 17 |
| Hi,
When a document is archived the original entry is left and a crossfile
created in the ARCHIVED DOCUMENTS folder. If the user then does an RAD
the document is restored in the original folder and the entry in
ARCHIVED DOCUMENTS is deleted.
However if the user has deleted the entry in the original folder (and
emptied the wastebasket) before doing the RAD then there is now only
one entry for the document and that is in ARCHIVED DOCUMENTS. The RAD
will then restore it and leave the entry in ARCHIVED DOCUMENTS. (It
would probably be better if it prompted the user for another folder in
this case)
Cheers

712.2 | RAD strange behaviour | AIMTEC::GRENIER_J | | Tue May 19 1992 18:08 | 10 |
| Thanks Stuart, but customer claims that it is in the original folder
as well as the ARCHIVED DOCUMENTS folder. He can read it from either
place and its status is no longer archived. Does not happen often -
just once in awhile. I also asked if the document was cross-filed to
another folder - he said no... I'm confused, and it cannot be
reproduced at will so it makes this one hard. I was hoping this
happened to someone else and they could give me an explanation which
I could give to the customer.

| With no way of knowing my guess would be that the customer has fallen
foul of ALL-IN-1's dirtiest trick - that FM (file message) does a
crossfile rather than a refile.

I regret to say that the way FM works is yet another crazy thing that
we were forced to do (back in v2.0 days) in the name of "compatibility
with DECmail" !

712.5 | rad strange behaviour | AIMTEC::GRENIER_J | | Wed May 20 1992 19:14 | 20 |
| Thanks for the input - but customer is still not happy. Here is his
scenario.
Created a document in a folder - did an ADN - about 1 week later did
an RAD. The document was retrieved, but the pointer was not deleted
from the ARCHIVED DOCUMENTS folder. The status was changed, customer
could read document from either folder (original or ARCHIVED). The
archive area has never been moved off line.
Next created a document in a folder - did an ADN - once he saw the
pointer in the ARCHIVED DOCUMENTS folder - he did an RAD. The
document was retrieved - pointer deleted in the ARCHIVED DOCUMENTS
folder.
To make matters worse, this is not always the scenario. Sometimes
the pointers do get deleted correctly.
Please help????

| I can't reproduce this problem on our V3.0 system. What version of
ALL-IN-1 is your customer running and to what patch level?
Here's a WAG - after the ADN there are two crossfiles, one in ARCHIVED
DOCUMENTS and one in the original folder. Does it make a difference if
the user typed RAD when pointing to the entry in ARCHIVED DOCUMENTS or
when pointing to the original document? Does it make a difference if
after the ADN the user refiles the original document to another folder?
Cheers

712.7 | still confused | AIMTEC::GRENIER_J | | Thu May 21 1992 20:03 | 17 |
| Stuart - don't feel bad, I can't reproduce the problem - nor can the
customer "at will".
He is running V2.4 and is patched thru K604. When the document is
ADN - and left in the archived area on-line for a couple of days -
they do a RAD from the original folder, the ARCHIVED DOCUMENTS folder
pointer is deleted. However, if they do the RAD from the ARCHIVED
DOCUMENTS folder the pointer is NOT deleted. AND if they do an ADN
then immediately do RAD from either folder, all pointers are deleted.
I am so confused..... He is going to try and do a refile to a new
folder and see what happens.
Thanks for your help

712.8 | Known bug in V2.4 | IOSG::BENOY | In a state of flux | Tue May 26 1992 16:35 | 22 |
|
This sounds like a known bug with the restore_document function that is
called by RAD. If you refile the original archive reference, because of
the way in which the restore code works it will fail to delete the
archived documents reference when it loops through all the document
crossfile references.
Workrounds
1) manually delete the archived documents reference
2) don't refile the original archived document reference
Note this is a known bug in V2.4 and as far as I know there is no K patch
for this.
It is fixed in V3.0
Hope this helps
