667.1 | It isn't even in FT yet | AIMTEC::WICKS_A | Liverpool win the F.A Cup again! | Mon May 11 1992 20:42 | 12 |
| Darryl,
What you're looking for is called the Distributed Sharing Option
this is a future product so i'm personally going to say no more about
it here other than it uses the same FCS as shipped with v3.0.
There is/was more discussion on this in both the A1INFO conference
and the old Field Test conference both of which you have access to.
Regards,

667.2 | Minor point on dist sharing option... | CHRLIE::HUSTON | | Mon May 11 1992 22:15 | 18 |

Darryl,
One small point I would like to point out in your .0 though...
>There is a FCS that ships with V3.0, but it is local only. One has to
>buy a license to allow outbound service, right? Is this available now
>and if so, are there any part #'s?
As Andrew indicated in .1, the dist sharing option is what is needed to
fully utilize the FCS. Without it the FCS can do local operations and
ask for information from other nodes. THe license enables a server
to give out its information to anyone who asks. It does not control
your server from asking for information. In other words, the option
enables a server to give out information, it does not control a server
from asking for information.

667.3 | FCS priority | GIDDAY::BURT | Scythe my dandelions down, sport | Thu Jun 02 1994 06:19 | 18 |
| Hello and greetings,
This is competely irrelevant to the base note, but it is FCS & it is a
question.
We've had a customer complain that after a housekeeping run completes & fcs is
restarted, it seems to start at a lower priority than normal. It appears that,
although when the FCS is started, it starts with a priority of 5, when HK jobs
stop/start the server, the priority is set to 3. HK jobs suspected are TRM & RSF
Any comments?
Thanks & regards,
Chele (attempting to recycle old notes)

If the server is a MUPa server the server startup routine
(SYS$STARTUP:OAFC$STARTUP.COM) will be testing for a system
logical, OAFC$SERVER_PRIORITY, which will set the base
priority when the server starts.
If the server isn't MUPa, the customer would have the choice
of upgrading to the MUP or modifying the server startup file
to specify a default base priority.

667.5 | prio stuck at 3 | GIDDAY::BURT | Scythe my dandelions down, sport | Mon Jun 06 1994 02:15 | 16 |
| Hello and greetings once again,
The customer has installed "part of the mupa". sigh.
Although he has set the system logical to have the priority at 7, and the
server priority default is supposed to be 5, etc etc for some reason the
priority never seems to change from 3.
The customer is contemplating setting up a login.com for the server with a
$ set proc/prio in it.
Any more hints? Please?
Thanks & regards,
Chele B

667.6 | WISHlist item? | GIDDAY::BURT | Scythe my dandelions down, sport | Mon Jun 06 1994 08:42 | 15 |
| Hello again,
Could this be wish-listed please?
Customer found that ALL-IN-1 does not appear to even try to raise it's
privileges to include ALTPRI. If ALTRPRI is set on as a default & authorised
privilege, the priority is raised correctly.
Thanks & regards,
Chele B
