644.0. "WordPerfect V5.1 with VMS V5.5" by ZPOVC::LCLEE () Thu May 07 1992 12:55

    Hi,

    Wonder if any other sites have similar mixed of versions installed
    as below and if they have encountered any problems so far:

    - VMS V5.5 with two nodes cluster

    - ALL-IN-1 V2.4 (US Version)

    - WordPerfect/VMS V5.1 (UKE Version)

    - WordPerfect/ALL-IN-1 Integration V2.0 (US Version)

    I've checked the WORDPERFECT notesfile and can't find any helpful
    information. Note topic 253.3 mentioned patch E is required for VMS
    V5.5 but I'm not sure if the WordPerfect used is V5.1.

    Appreciate any information or pointer 'cos one of my customer will be
    doing the upgrade of VMS to V5.5 due to h/w upgrade to 6610 this
    weekend, 9-10 May 1992. I've asked the local WordPerfect distributor
    the same question but still waiting for a reply.

    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Regards,
    Lee

644.1Safe Printing - VMS A5.5....IOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeThu May 07 1992 14:487
    I'm sure I read somewhere that WordPerfect has their own print
    symbiont, and it was broken by VMS V5.5 like ours was.

    Perhaps the safest thing for your customer is to stay with VMS A5.5
    until you get a resolution, or VMS V5.5-1...

    This is how the problem got me , it makes no difference if a5.5 or 5.5
    (the following text is a extract of a mail message so it might not
    all make sense)

      When printing under A5.5 the error was

             "JBC-E-SYMDEL, UNEXPECTED SYMBIONT PROCESS TERMINATION"

             The the customer just happened to throw into the conversation
    that he had WordPerfect installed on the system (after 2 days!!!).

             It Transpires that under 5.5 you need the logical SMBSHRSHR
    defined
             as follows:

             (LNM$SYSTEM_TABLE)

                "SMBSRVSHR" = "SYS$SHARE:SMBSRVSHR_OLD.EXE"

    WordPerfect also need the logical defined (see various Stars Articles
    on the subject) so WordPerfect and WPS-PLUS/VMS will not print on
    the same system under 5.5.

             Apparently WordPerfect are doing something about it

644.3Deintegrate! V5.1-1 works okTRCOA::HALSEYI'd rather be sailing!Fri May 08 1992 17:5623

    I have a customer site rather similiar. The trick to make WordPerfect
    print under *V*5.5 is to DEINTEGRATE all of the queues. This mean
    taking the /CHAR=(127) off of the queues by running the
    @SYS$STARTUP:WPCORP$INTEGRATE_QUEUES DEINTEGRATE after the startup (the
    normal startup DEINTEGRATE option doesn't always work).

    This includes going into the WP51/GLOBAL settings and setting each
    queue characteristic to Not integrated.

    On our SYSTARTUP_V5, we added 5 lines after WP started up. The first
    to deintegrate the queues (see above), and then
    $ STOP/QUE/RESET OA$FORMATTER
    $ DEASSIGN/EXEC/GROUP SMBSRVSHR
    $ START/QUE OA$FORMATTER
    $ @SYS$STARTUP:WPCORP$INTEGRATE_QUEUES REINTEGRATE LOGICALS

    OA$FORMATTER can't be started with that darned logical existing!

    Sorry for being so long winded, but I hope it helps.
