614.0. ""WPL$PRT" = "OA$LIB_LLV"" by GLOVES::ALLERTON (Steve Allerton 343-0205) Fri May 01 1992 00:07

    The logical WPL$PRT is search-listed to include the directory
    OA$LIB_LLV (last directory searched). Being fairly ignorant of
    printer tables and the like, can someone provide a brief synopsis of
    why the library directory is incorporated in the search list?

    Thanks,

    Steve

614.1Does this help?IOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeFri May 01 1992 10:4918
    Here's an extract from the Change Order:

    WPS-PLUS V4.0 uses a logical called WPL$PRT instead of KOA$PRINT_DIR.
    For ALL-IN-1 V3.0 we will still define KOA$PRINT_DIR in case any
    customizations use this logical. We will announce that this logical
    will removed from the next release of ALL-IN-1 and sites should convert
    to using WPL$PRT. The WPL$PRT logicals will be defined as follows in
    an equivalent way to KOA$PRINT_DIR.

        WPL$PRT = WPL$SITE_PRT_SHARE
                  WPL$PRT_SHARE
                  OA$LIB_LLV

        WPL$SITE_PRT_SHARE = "A1LIVE:[ALLIN1.SITE.PRINT]"
        WPL$PRT_SHARE = "A1LIVE:[ALLIN1.PRINT]"

614.2Why OA$LIB_LLV?GLOVES::ALLERTONSteve Allerton 343-0205Fri May 01 1992 16:0117

        Well, I was aware of the change in the logical name...I guess my
        *** real *** question is "retroactive," since OA$LIB_LLV is also
    	part of the KOA$PRINT_DIR logical search list :

        Question : Why is the OA$LIB_LLV directory included in search lists
    		   for the logicals KOA$PRINT_DIR and WPL$PRT ? (I can't find
                   any .PRA or .PRC files there, so there must be something
                   else out there related to PTU that gets called). I've
                   located PTUFORMS.MSG there, and suspect that this might
                   be one reason. Are there any other reasons?

        Thanks,
        Steve
614.3Guessing Wildly...IOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeTue May 05 1992 11:1723
    Of course the new logical was made the same as the old one, since
    that's a normal ALL-IN-1 development rule :-)

    I don't know why the old logical included OA$LIB_LLV, I can only guess
    that it dates from:

    	1) The .PRA files only being in OA$LIB, since there wasn't a
    	separate directory for them.

    	2) Something to do with WPS-PLUS standalone?

    	3) In some way related to when we moved from V2.1/BEV and split up
    	the directories?

    	4) Some old requirement for language specific printer files.

    You might ask in one of the WPS-PLUS conferences, since we're almost
    bound to have set up this way at their request.

    Or if you *REALLY* want to know, I could trawl through the *very* old
    CMS history and change orders and see if I can find a comment about it!

    Coincidently, I have just discoverred a file that apparantly was used
    when creating the .ELE files used for moving files to their target
    directories during the installation. The file is dated 11-Jun-1987 and
    appears to have been last used for ALL-IN-1 V2.1/BEV. If I am
    interpreting it correctly, it specifies the printer tables were placed
    in A1$LIB_DIRECT which during installation equates to OA$LIB_LLV.

    Graham/Martin,

    Thanks for your responses. No trawling is requested.
    I hate to ask questions like this, and wouldn't if I didn't have to
    anticipate same when writing/updating courses.

    I'll buy the historical explanation.

    Regards,

614.6I *like* answering this sort of question....IOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeFri May 08 1992 09:3911
    Steve,

    Please carry on asking questions like this. It's much more interesting
    to answer questions we haven't been asked before, and when the answer
    involves looking into the ancient and convoluted history of ALL-IN-1
    all manner of exciting things turn up.

    Also the answers improve all (including those of us who do the
    searching :-) ) our knowledge bases!
