566.0. "Site printers and Print Styles" by ULYSSE::DAVID (Guy David @VBE) Fri Apr 24 1992 14:51

        Hello,

In the ALL-IN-1 v3.0 Management Guide, chapter 13 (Formating and
Printing), paragraph 13.5, just before figure 13-3, I found this
sentence about site printers and print style (printer types) :

"If you add a new printer, you must enter the details in the
printer types file before entering the details into the site
        printers file."

I did some tests and it worked like this.

Therefore, this means that if I want to create a new System
Printer Style, to be used for example with all LPS20 printers on
my system, I need to delete and create again all LPS20 printer
destinations on the system. This is a loss of time.

        Did I miss something ?

        Guy.

    Guy,

You do not need to delete and re-create the LPS20 printer destinations.
All you need do is to edit each LPS20 printer destination to change the
Format Printer Type field to your new Printer Style.

The sentence in the Management Guide is there because the Format
Printer Type field on the Site Printers form validates against the
System Print Styles. Therefore the System Print Style must exist
before it can be entered in the Format Printer Type field.

It's ok now. I misunderstood some links between the different
        files involved when printing.

        Thanks for the answer,
        Guy.
