544.0. "Usage Count and TRM" by KERNEL::COOPER (Suzanne Cooper UK Customer Support (833)3502) Wed Apr 22 1992 11:57

    Hello

I have a customer who has complained of documents going missing.
i.e text of mails, attachment etc. I suspect that this has something
to do with incorrect usage counts. So I have got the Customer to run
TRM on a more regular basis.

I have a question, Are there still problems with documents and
Incorrect usage counts, with regard to filing attachments and text. I
know that regular running of TRM should sort the usage count out but
why is it wrong in the first place? I know this is a bit of a leading
question, but the customer is a bit of a stroppy git, and demands to
now why he should run TRM.

Which version of ALL-IN-1 is your customer running and to what patch
    level?

With K603 usage count problems should be limited to machine failures.
If your customer is still experiencing usage count problems then a
customisation that breaks the rules is the first thing I'd look for
(such as applications that write change cab$ filename=...).

The best way to track the problem down is to start with a system that
is clean, i.e. TRM has made any necessary repairs. Then next time
(ideally the next evening) run TRM in verify mode. This will report
the files involved that have usage count errors. Take such a file and
examine its content and attributes - this should point you to the users
who have performed actions on it. Interrogate the users and find out
    what they did.

    Cheers
