516.0. "ALL-IN-1 vs ALL-IN-1 MAIL?" by DENVER::THURY (Rocky Mountain High) Thu Apr 16 1992 21:43

I am working with a customer who is running ALL-IN-1 and Message Router
on a large cluster and on 6 different other systems throughout the
state of Colorado. This customer is planning on implementing some level
of TeamLinks for their users. As a first step of this implementation,
    they've purchased a product called ALL-IN-1 MAIL.

I've just started reading the installation guide for this product, and
I find myself wondering: "Is this product really needed? since they
already have ALL-IN-1 installed and running?". There seems to be a
    lot of redundancy here!

Can anyone address this question? This seems to be a product needed
only for systems NOT running ALL-IN-1, yet want/need an interface to
the ALL-IN-1 mail system. Is this true?

    	Thanks for any help,
    	  Denny

    Denny,

You might like to move this note to the TeamLinks notesfile
    (ABBOTT::WINDOWS_OFFICE).

TeamLinks only offers ALL-IN-1 Mail as its mail system - it does not
offer REAL ALL-IN-1 Mail. We don't want to reopen that rathole. So if
you customer is committed to TeamLinks then they MUST but ALL-IN-1
    Mail.

What they do with REAL ALL-IN-1 is another whole can of worms - they
could continue to run it (both use Message Router after all) with the
users having a choice of mail interfaces or they could just use
the ALL-IN-1 File Cabinet as a data repository. Fortunately ALL-IN-1
still retains many advantages over its internal and external
competitors such as CustomisatioN Management, System Management etc...
that I believe most won't do that.

As I say i'm not sure this is the right notesfile but others might
disagree and i'm sure they will.

    Regards,

I believe that there was some sort of hardware or system problem which
caused a minor error in Andrew's reply (.1). I believe that the
    statement below:

>	... So if
> you customer is committed to TeamLinks then they MUST but ALL-IN-1
> Mail.

    was meant to be:

								  So if
you customer is committed to TeamLinks then they MUST buy ALL-IN-1
    Mail.

Maybe some dastardly person named Freud moved the t and y keys on
    Andrew's keyboard.

    Keep smiling,
