445.0. "Transfer users from V2.3 to V3.0?" by CRONIC::SCHULER (It's like....electricity) Wed Apr 08 1992 23:19

Is it possible to transfer ALL-IN-1 V2.3 accounts on one node,
to another node running ALL-IN-1 V3.0?

I have a handful of users on an ALL-IN-1 V2.2 system. I have
ALL-IN-1 V2.4 on another system, which is currently not being
used (i.e. there are no ALL-IN-1 accounts on the V2.4 system
    right now).

I know I have to upgrade the V2.2 system to at least V2.3 in
order to transfer users to the V2.4 system. But since I'll
have V3.0 soon, I'm wondering if I should just remove V2.4 from
the unused system, do a fresh V3.0 install on that system,
and then transfer my users from the newly upgraded V2.3 system.

    Clear?

    Any help appreciated.

    /Greg

Yes, you can transfer directly from V2.3 to V3.0, but not
    	back again.

You can go in both directions with V2.4/V3.0.

It took a few re-readings, but I got there in the end! :-)

445.32.3 - 3.0 with variablesANGLIN::CUNNINGHAMMon Apr 27 1992 18:1613
    Similar question...

I have a customer who is currently at ALL-IN-1 V2.3 and wants to do
a direct upgrade to V3.0. The difference here is that they also have
SFCP and WordPerfect. Can they go directly to 3.0 with these
variables, or must they do an interim upgrade to 2.4.

Also, has WordPerfect 5.1 been certified (and will the integration
    ship with) version 3.0?

    Thanks for any direction,
    Sandy

    Sandy,

You can go directly from v2.3 to v3.0 no matter what is integrated
so long as the third-party vendor has a v3.0 compatible kit.

WordPerfect have not shipped or announced a ship-date for their v3.0
    kit yet.

P.S How is this similar to a question about Transfer user??

One of my customers is also planning to transfer users a/c
from v 2.3 to v 3.0 system. If I still remember it correctly, there are
many bugs in V2.3 user transfer function. I just wonder if there is any
pre-caution checklist that my customers should be looking at berfore
attending to do it. One suggests that to patch v2.3's transfer scripts
with v2.4 or v3.0 scripts and cross our figures and hope it works. Any
    comment ?

    Hello Fred.
There should be no problems with V2.3 --> V3.0 transfers. The code for
    this is much more robust.

I suggest your customer starts by reading the V3.0 Management Guide
thoroughly Chapter 8 "Transferring Users' Accounts" and in particular
    8.3 Pre-Transfer Tasks.

For more background, do a dir/title=transfer on this conference, and
see if you can get a copy of ALL-IN-1 Information Update, August 1992,
which has a good description of "Changes to Transfer User Options",
including a Transfer Checklist, and a script to calculate an account
    size.

Lastly, do get them to do some practice runs first on unwanted accounts
of reasonable size. It still remains safer to do single user transfers
    rather than multiple.

    Hope all goes well.

No, this will definitely NOT work! :-)
The mechanisms are very different, and there is no need anyway.
    Cheers
