424.0. "Wierd behaviour on EMHEAD" by GANTRY::HULL (Digital Services Delivery - Motown) Tue Apr 07 1992 13:59

Here's some real wierdness:

We just turned DDS on in our A1V24 system. I populated the database with
MAIL_DIR_CONVERT.SCP and all entries in DDS look fine.

When the manager here addresses a mail to himself by typing his full last
name and pressing RETURN, the returned address string is the FULL MR
address with @A1@node on it. He then types the exact same entry again on
line 2 and it comes back as a local address. We can do it with another
name the same way. Anything that forces a Gold-L lookup works fine, but an
exact match comes back with the full network routing....????

Things we were doing prior to this that may be affecting it(?):

We flipped the logical OA$DDS_PRIME to 2 (system/exec mode) to see what
differences it would make in the addressing behaviour. None was seen
compared to prime=1. We still had to press Gold-M, entry SMD etc etc.
Very ugly keystroking to force on users.

Our 3 accts are also the first (& only so far) accounts that we did a
RENAME ACCOUNT (RNA) to, moving from horrible names like AH0228 to
HULL,ALAN, etc. We left the old acct names out there with Auto-Forwarding
turned on.

Why is the full network address coming back on the first entry, and where
is the difference in DDS addressing lookup behaviour documented?

Thanks,
	Al

    Al,

    I raised a CLD for this problem for a big customer. They are running
    with CSP020 (country specific patch) for weeks without problems.

    I expect that someone from IOSG is going to tell you
    the channel you need to obtain this patch.

424.2CSP available at K-MART?AIMTEC::WICKS_AVote Bill'n'Opus for a weirder USATue Apr 07 1992 16:2410
    Al,

    Yes it's a known bug in Vid's code which is fixed in DIAMOND.

    How to order a CSP is a mystery at the moment as we used to get them
    from CSSE who have since been disbanded.

I'm sure it was a typo, but just to set the record straight, a CSP is a
Customer Specific Patch (i.e. produced to resolve a specific problem for
a specific customer) and not a Country Specific Patch (which would imply
that there was a different version for each country).

Ok - so how do I get this for my customer now? I haven't called CSC or
anything as it wasn't a show-stopper, but we'd like to have it fixed if
there is a patch available. If you can't reply directly here, please send
mail to me at GANTRY::HULL.

Thanks,

    Al,

    When you find out let us know - that way when someone calls the CSC
    we at least know the answer.

424.7IOSG where are you ?UTRTSC::SCHOLLAERTHalf Dutch - Half BelgiumThu Apr 09 1992 20:1314
    Hello,

    I didn't mention any names and numbers because the mail
    I got from IOSG said that they wanted te keep track of where
    the patch was going.

    Perhaps the lack of response from IOSG is a hint that
    you should use "formal channels".

    Lets wait for another day, then I will specify where you
    can find the patch. Its fully tested now, my customer
    runs it for weeks.

424.8CSPs ARE specificIOSG::PARTONJI was sure I pressed RETURN...Fri Apr 10 1992 15:4625
Jan,

	Customer Specific patches, as the name implies, are produced to
address CLDs from particular customers and are issued to a limited
distribution list (currently thopse invloved in the CLD) and intended to have
a limited lifespan.

We (Engineering) have to keep close tabs on exactly who has been issued
a particular CSP since an area of grave concern is compatibilty with
possible other CSPs/K-nnn patches a customer may have installed.

Some problems addressed in CSPs will inevitably be applicable to a wider
audience (and will of necessity be made obsolete by virtue of the fact that
they will be incorporated in K-patches, indeed we endeavour to incorporate
code from all CSPs in K-patches), but for the most part they are
"one-offs" for a particular customer.

We intend to provide the CSCs shortly with an updated list of CSPs currently
available for V2.4. Generally, requests from customers for particular
fixes available in CSPs should be dealt with through the CSCs and problems
discovered within Digital addressed to Engineering.

Al Hull's request for CSP020 has been satisified.

Jonathan.

    Just to set the record straight:

    CSSE have NOT been disbanded!. The support function has been absorbed
    by the engineering groups and the CSSE support staff have merged with
    the rest of SPE (our new name Serviceability and Process Engineering)
    where we continue to do work on new product planning.
