419.1 | Just a couple more! | DDMAIL::LIDEN | | Mon Apr 06 1992 21:27 | 15 |
| Another question just came up.
1. When setting the breakpoints for the Mail Directory search. There
is the two system wide breakpoints SYS$EMDESCAL1 & 2, the question is,
shouldn't I be able to see them with, $ SH SYM SYS$EMDESCAL1 & 2? And
secondly, for a user to set $EMDESCAL1 & 2, wouldn't they require CMD
priv to do so?
2. How about just one more quick one! What would the output look like
from a MDS and why would some one want to do one? (Mail directory
sort).
Thanks again,
Kevin

419.2 | V3.0 Transfer User uses  the space of V2.4 | IOSG::TALLETT | Just one more fix, then we can ship... | Mon Apr 06 1992 22:27 | 19 |

RE: .0 (4)

I take it this is talking about Transfer User. Well for a large
account (if it is large, then the overhead will be negligible)
V3.0 takes half the disk space of V2.4 transfers. This is because
on V2.4, after everything was prepared, PAT packed up all the
savesets into USERNAME.BCK, which MAS had to restore. This step
was eliminated, which saves half your disk space for the transfer.
Whilst we're here, you can PAT an account more than once on V3.0 as PAT
no longer munges the account during preparation. The best feature
of all in my opinion.

419.3 | Until the DDS developer stops by... | AIMTEC::WICKS_A | Vote Bill'n'Opus for a weirder USA | Mon Apr 06 1992 22:36 | 23 |
| and i'll take the additonal questions 1) and 2) ...
1) no since they're in the SYSTEM.PST in OA$DATA not in wherever VMS
symbols live. and yes you do need < (CMD) priv to see them.
2) A sorted directory search looks exactly like an unsorted one
except that yes you've guessed it they're sorted
so instead of:
WICKS ANDREW the rest of the stuff
MOUSE MICKEY the rest of the stuff
you see:
MOUSE MICKEY
WICKS ANDREW
Actually it's not new to v3.0 as such since BIND/SORT was there but
undocumented in v2.4.

Andrew.D.Wicks

Not sure what you are asking here. A partition name is named by any
node in the cluster, cluster alias does not matter. the partition on
the cluster is named by any of the nodes in teh cluster, all are
synonyms for the same partition.

Kevin,
I'll try to answer the other two:
^^
1. Let's say User1 owns a document which they give priv's to User2.
User2 reserves the document. Then User1 takes User2's priv's away.
How can User1 regain control of the document?
^^
Whichever user has Control Access to the Document should be able to
Unreserve it (FC URV). If USER1 owns the document, he would have
Control access to it.
^^
3. From MD (manage drawers), what does the REM option perform?
^^
REM "removes the drawer from partition", meaning that the record
for the drawer in OA$DATA:PARTITION.DAT gets deleted. The drawer's
physical directory structure is left intact. As such, it can be moved
(copied) to another device, then re-added to the PARTITION file
using the ADD option on the Partition Management menu. The
reason (I think) for doing this is in the case when you as the Manager,
create a drawer for one or more users as an "autonomous" drawer, then
decide you want to change it's physical location.
