389.0. "BL123A Upgrade Anomoly" by ATLANA::SHERMAN (Debt Free!) Wed Apr 01 1992 17:06

This past weekend our SAHQ VAXcluster was upgraded from BL90 to BL123A
and all appears well. Thanks to all involved on both sides of the Pond!

From the FT conference we knew the "US CP" functionality had been changed
so "Thanks" to whomever is responsible for fixing the problems from BL90!
As a workaround we had advised our users to let their password expire then
let VMS take care of the password change when they logged in, but it is
always better to have the intended functionality work.

I do have a somewhat bothersome problem that has surfaced and thought I
should post it here in case it is something that may show up elsewhere.
Something has modified our account creation templates so as to make them
basically unusable. I can edit them to fix the bogus entries so it's no
big deal, just a pain. After the <FF> are the pages with their munged
fields; I hope someone can make some sense out of this ...

Hth,

Ron

Ron,

Sorry I haven't got a lot of time at the moment, but this looks
suspiciously like a conversion of the account templates data file has
gone wrong. Could you inspect the creation dates on
oa$data:SM_ACCOUNT_TYPES.DAT and see if a recent conversion has been
done, and if there is an old file still around? If there is, rename the
new one, and re-do the conversion manually. something like;
$allin/noinit
Enter CMD: oa$flo_open oa$lib:manager
Enter CMD: oa$cnv_convert v24_smtemplate,smtemplate
Enter CMD: exit
Sorry if this is completely wrong idea.

389.2Conversion Done? Customisation? FDL??IOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeWed Apr 01 1992 18:205
Going back to BL90, there wasa conversion on the TMEPLATES file - Did
you do it? Did you have the tmeplates file customised? Was there an FDL
for it anywhere?

389.3All the stepd were done?AIMTEC::WICKS_AVote Bill'n'Opus for a weirder USAWed Apr 01 1992 18:459
Ron,

Did you do all the manual conversion procedures - there were about 9
mostly for SM and CM and i'm sure that going 90 to 110 SMTEMPLATE was
one of them.

Regards,

389.4Um, er, uh 'overdone' ...ATLANA::SHERMANDebt Free!Tue Apr 07 1992 16:0612
Update to .0 - Yes, the conversion steps were followed. In fact, that's
what happened - the conversion was done _twice_, yielding the results
found in .0 (cockpit error!). I renamed the last version of the data
file SM_ACCOUNT_TYPES.DAT and the templates are OK again. Thanks for
your suggestions.

Bye the bye, a big "THANKS" also to the folk responsible for the dramatic
improvement in UFCR time!! I knew from the FT conference that there had
been some changes somewhere around BL110 so I expected some improvement
but this is great!
