387.0. "Acknowledgements of read messages?" by AKOCOA::DROMANO (TDU V3.0 Development) Wed Apr 01 1992 16:40

I was looking for a functionality in ALL-IN-1 that I thought existed
    but cannot find now.

Can you have an acknowledgement automatically sent to you when I
    message recipient reads a message? i.e. I send a message to 'A', 'A'
reads the message and at that point I get a generated message that said
    'A' just read your message.

    Thanks,

    Don

Certainly is there.... just press TAB at the subject field when
creating the message, and say YES to Read receipts.....

BUT be aware that the receiving user of your message might feel that
you are intruding on his private space when you check up on whether he has
read your message or not..... and therefore ALL-IN-1 gives him the
opportunity to decide whether to send back this read receipt or
    not......

    Cheers, Chris

another question on read receipts -

has anyone seen (and know why/how/to fix) -

a user sends a message to a DL. there is no receipt requested on
the message (checked by doing an SH). BUT - she rec'd back 3
read receipts from users. the users all have the 'send read
receipt' field as a Y in their profile?

this is happening sporadically to this 1 secretary.

    ALl-IN-1 2.4 no patches

    		thanks - ann

Were the users local or remote?

If local, were they addressed as local (USER, as opposed to USER @A1
    @THISNODE) ?

First class, second class, express, deferred ?

Dave (playing for time, really ;-))

well, seems this wasn't an ALL-IN-1 concern after all!!! (thank
    goodnes!).

there is a homegrown mail package here that is set up to automatically
send back read receipts. the 3 users whose accounts send back the
receipts were on this homegrown thing!

ahh - joys of being on the customer site (that is heavily customized!)!

    	thanks - ann
