382.1 | What does it offer? | AIMTEC::WICKS_A | Vote Bill'n'Opus for a weirder USA | Wed Apr 01 1992 01:33 | 13 |
| Kam,
Doesn't it offer you one called ALLIN1?
I know that's not the proper spelling of the product name but that's
what the license is called or so I thought.
Unfortunately I can't check for you since the relevant page in VTX
isn't available to me.

382.2 | got confused between ALLIN1 & A1-xxxx | TENNIS::KAM | Kam USDS (714)261-4133 (DTN 535) IVO | Wed Apr 01 1992 02:44 | 20 |
| Yep, you're right. I was doing a search on A1 and there are about 12 or
so under A1-something. I was confused as someone said they though it was
suppose to have IOS in the name and there is a A1-IOS-LAN pak.
I didn't think to search for ALLxxxx. I don't use ALL-IN-1 but
everytime I see someone using it they always active it by typing A1 so
I just assumed that the pak would be A1xxx.
For future reference what is the difference between the ALLIN1 and A1-xxxx
paks? My involvement with this is that in spare time I assist the local
Ed Service organization system manager their 3800s. I usually don't
install or use most of these products.
Thanks I got the pak called ALLIN1. I'll install this and hopefully
the person doing the installation will be able to complete it.
thanks

382.3 | A few PAK names | AERO::TALLETT | Just one more fix, then we can ship... | Wed Apr 01 1992 09:33 | 21 |

The ones I know about are:
ALLIN1 Capacity license for ANY one language
ALLIN1-UI-DEUTSCH Capacity license for a secondary language
(replace DEUTSCH with your favourite language)
ALLIN1-PERSONAL Personal user license for ANY one language
(Also for any secondary language in V2.4)
ALLIN1-PUI-DEUTSCH Personal user license for a secondary language
(New in V3.0, and will not be sold, thats life)
Unless my memory fails me, the code doesn't recognise any other
PAKs, but marketing seem to have a penchant for inventing wierd
and wonderful PAK names. How they get them to work I am not sure.
There will also be a Distributed Sharing Option (DSO) PAK to enable
remote access in the FileCab server, A1-DIST-SHR.

Paul

382.4 | History? | IOSG::PYE | Graham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's Apprentice | Wed Apr 01 1992 18:11 | 10 |
| I expect the ALLIN1 PAK name reflects the name of the DCL comand verb,
which was invented before VMS would allow hyphens in verb and file
names. It's hard to chnage the PAK name, since then the old ones don't
work unless we check for several different ones. IOS is just tis week's
name :-)
What are some examples of the other A1* names? They might be layered
ALL-IN-1 applications.

382.5 | LMF rules | AERO::TALLETT | Just one more fix, then we can ship... | Wed Apr 01 1992 18:54 | 13 |

No, its simpler than that. There is a corporate naming standard
for PAKs which says you have to use hyphens to separate certain
things in PAK names. ALLIN1-PERSONAL is an example, so you can't
use ALL-IN-1 'cos it breaks the rules. It was planned that LMF
would do fancy things like adding the "-PERSONAL" bit for you
and things.
The rules have changed as to *WHAT* you actually use the hyphens
for, but they are still reserved...

382.6 | Loads and Loads of PAKs | AIMTEC::WICKS_A | Vote Bill'n'Opus for a weirder USA | Wed Apr 01 1992 20:47 | 21 |
| GAP/Paul,
I just found someone who could get at the VTX PAK page and there are
over 100 licences listed with either A1 or ALLIN1 in the title!
This of course includes all the non ALL-IN-1 products that are just
using the brand name such as the X.400 Mail Products, The Manager for
LANs and WANs products, the DESKtop products, Personal Assistant,
etc ... etc...
For *REAL* ALL-IN-1 there's all the licenses for Language versions of
ALL-IN-1 and a duplicate set for the Starter Product and even though I
don't know why a licence for the BEV!
No wonder people are confused... would it be a good idea to use
one of the reserved notes in this conference to list them all?

Andrew.D.Wicks
