378.0. "Comment - Set Mail User" by MSDSWS::DUNCAN (To boldly go..Where no one dares) Tue Mar 31 1992 16:54

SET MAIL USER is great, but I do have one comment on it.

If my manager allowed me Mail Access to his account, and I read his new
mail, then he would NOT see HIS unread mail (that HE has not read yet)
in the INBOX as it is now in his READ since I have read it.

I know that this would have been a very difficult task, but it would
have been very nice if the INBOX documents were somehow copied into a
special folder for access by the person(s) being allowed Mail Access.
The copy would only have to apply to the INBOX.

Also, there are only two options for Mail Access: RWED, and Send. I
think this should somehow been broke up into different levels to not
allow someone to delete. These options should only apply to the Mail
folders, not to the entire MAIN Drawer. I know that the other folders
could be refiled into other Drawers, but I also know that not all users
    will do this.

Just my two dimes worth (inflation you know),
    Darryl

378.1No reason it can't work like it "should"SHALOT::NICODEMWho told you I'm paranoid???Wed Apr 01 1992 15:1118
	Darryl,

I think this is more of a user training issue than anything else. Think
of how this works today, in the paper environment:

A secretary gets all of her manager's mail; she opens and reads it
(meaning that it is no longer in the manager's Inbox). However, if she sees
something that she feels should be brought to her manager's attention, she most
likely puts it back into his Inbox, so that he can read it later.

There's no reason not to continue this scenario with SMU. It is true
that when the message is read by *anyone*, its status changes from UNREAD to
READ. However, that same message can be refiled right back into the INBOX
folder, so that when the manager does an II, he will see all of the mail that
is either a) totally new and unread, or b) already read by the secretary, but
recognized as something that should be brought to his attention.

And it would be a simple task to change it such that it would refile to
another folder, that's what ALL-IN-1 is all about.
