374.0. "Test and Repair PARTITION.DAT ?" by UTRTSC::SCHOLLAERT (Half Dutch - Half Belgium) Tue Mar 31 1992 10:13

    Hello,

    I was looking for additions to the Housekeeping Procedures
    related to corrupted FILECAB.DAT and PARTITION.DAT .

    The only reference I found was in PT.
    A warning will be generated when there is
    no entry found in PARTITION.DAT for a drawer in users' FILECAB.DAT

    This should be fixed by correcting users' drawer details.
    I wonder how ? Shouldn't the PARTITION file be fixed ?

    I am trying to sort this out before the first customer calls.....

    Regards,

    Jan

374.1No problem...CHRLIE::HUSTONTue Mar 31 1992 15:5626

    Jan,

    If I understand you correctly you want to fix the problem of
    a user with a filecab entry, but the corresponding partition file
    has no drawer that matches. Right?

    There are 2 options:

    1) Remove the drawer from the filecabinet. Not really ideal since
       a drawer could be in multiple filecabinets throughout the network.

    2) Verify that the drawer really physically exists (ie has a directory
       docdb.dat etc) then use the FCS system managment routine called
       OafcSetPartition to "create" the drawer over again. Note that
       "creating" a drawer from the system managment interface is not
       a create. It takes a physically existing drawer and creates a
       record in the partition file for it. In order to do this you
       need to know 1) Drawer directory 2) language of the drawer
       3) Unique name of the drawer.

    Not sure of the exact menu options for 2) but I would guess it is
    on the manage drawers or manage partitions menu.

    Right ! I don't know how they do it, but customers allways
    corrupt delete/corrupt these kind of vital files.

    >There are 2 options:

    Right !

    OafcSetPartition ? Oops. Do you have an example ?

    This looks good, but when I "SM MD C", and use an existing
    directory, I get the error:

         "A drawer of this name already exists on the system"

    Perhaps I use the wrong option, I don't see a language field ?

    Jan

374.3Try Manage PartitionsAIMTEC::PORTER_TTerry Porter, ALL-IN-1 Support, Atlanta CSCTue Mar 31 1992 17:383
Try using SM MFC MP ADD to add an entry to a partition for an existing drawer.

    re .2 and .3

    Yup, Terry sounds like he has the idea :-)

    One of these days I will find the time to actually learn what the
    SM menus do. I know what our stuff is capable of, but am a little
    vague on what was implemented and how it is done. :-)

Sorry, but I could not resist adding .-1, the temptation was just too great.

If you can make it down I would be glad to see you.

374.7it is warmer down there...CHRLIE::HUSTONWed Apr 01 1992 15:2512

    Terry,

    Thanks for the invite, they are predicting 6 inches of snow for
    tonight up here, somehow, I hope this is a cruel April fools joke.

    Don't know how to justify the trip down when I have the developer
    of it right down the hall and a system to mess around with in
    the next office, could use the sun though :-)
