I have a question about archiving... Take the situation where archiving is running regularly, and all users are having their old documents archived. Some archive areas are moved to tape, some are online. What happens when one (or more than one) user is transferred to another ALL-IN-1 system? Does the user automagically get his previously archived documents restored as part of the transfer process? If not, what happens when on the other system, he tries to restore a document that was: a) Online on the original system b) Moved to tape on the original system What happens if archiving is not running on the new system? If the documents are restored by the transfer takes place, how are documents on tape handled? Any thoughts would be appreciated... Cheers, Andy

I'm not sure, but I think archived documents are ignored by transfer user. IE: you lose the archived documents if your account is transferred. You must manually un-archive anything you want to be transferred with your account. Scott

I hope not - that would sound like a really good reason not to touch archiving. It's a good enough reason for at least one customer I know to never consider archiving documents... Andy

Transfer user (V2.3, V2.4 and V3.0) does not restore archived documents. The result under V2.3 and V2.4 is that the transferred user has a document in their DOCDB that is archived, but can never be restored. I believe V3.0 ends up in the same situation but I have not tested it. The bottom line is that before you transfer a user you have to manually restore any archived documents, and for V3.0 manually unreserve any reserved documents. During V3.0 FT training we asked that transfer user at least warn the manager that the user had archived and/or reserved documents. The response was that it was not practical to do that, I forget the exact reason but I am sure someone can explain it better than I. Regards, Terry |
