293.0. "ALL-IN-1 Hot File Candidates for Solid State Disks (e.g., ESE50)" by MARVA1::DISNEY (Jim Disney, dtn 341-2867) Fri Mar 20 1992 15:54

I'm preparing to perform a capacity plan for a large ALL-IN-1 customer
(1500+ users) and recommending solid state disks (e.g., ESE50). The customer
is also using ALL-IN-1 shared file cabinets. I'd like to know what ALL-IN-1
files are good candidates for solid state disks. Are there any ALL-IN-1 hot
files that can't be distributed across multiple disks?

    There's lots of discussions about this in the previous version of the
    conference on:

    	OAWEGO::ALL-IN-1_V24

    including, as I recall, a note from someone who's done this, describing
    how well it worked.

    Basically getting all of OA$LIB on would be a good start...

    Putting OA$DATA on would probably be a bad idea, unless you were happy
    about data security on the ESE20.

Chapter 5 of the ISA Performance and Configuration Guide includes a lovely
write up on what disk options are available, and addresses solid state
disks directly. It includes a discussion of what files to move and
any considersations involved. See note 142 for directions on getting
to the guide through the BOSS or as a PostScript file. Your comments
on the guide are welcome by mail or through the group notes file
at MRKTNG::ISA-PERFORMANCE-GROUP (press KP7 to add it to your
notebook).
