286.1 | A suggestion | SCOTTC::MARSHALL | Pearl-white, but slightly shop-soiled | Fri Mar 20 1992 11:18 | 15 |
| Here's one suggestion: not very elegant, but it should work.
Secretary receives mail with document text. They make a VMS file of it with
"DT SV". Then they start up DECwrite and use the "Include text file" option
(or whatever it's called) to get this text into DECwrite. They then format it,
and save the file.
Back in ALL-IN-1, they use "DT RVC" to make an ALL-IN-1 document from the
DECwrite file, which they then mail to back to the author for proof-reading.
The author needs to do similar "DT SV" things to get the document into DECwrite
for reading/printing.
You may be able to do cleverer things with CDA...

286.2 | But on a VT? | IOSG::TALLETT | Mit Schuh bish hi | Fri Mar 20 1992 14:20 | 11 |

Re: .1
Errrm, the originator only has a VT, what does he do with a
DDIF file?
My solution would be to sell him a workstation, he'd probably
like it. :-)

286.3 | Mica? | SIOG::T_REDMOND | Thoughts of an Idle Mind | Fri Mar 20 1992 22:28 | 4 |
| Why not use Mica, the ALL-IN-1 Services for VMS DECwindows? That has a
fairly "seamless" DECwrite integration....

286.4 | CDA is a good thing | LARVAE::JORDAN | Chris Jordan, Digital Services - Office Consultant, London | Wed Mar 25 1992 14:08 | 19 |
| The receiving user should be able to handle the DDIF document.....
When you do the RVC it is probably better to add / change or use a
later version that allows you to Receive a DDIF document. That way it
is tagged correctly in ALL-IN-1.
When this document is read by the VT user, it should be converted
through the CDA converter to ASCII and the TEXT ONLY displayed on the
screen.
When the user PRINTS this document, it should be converted to
PostScript, and then printed in all of its glory.
If the user prints to an LN03 (rather than an LN03R PostScript printer)
it would be good if it called the PSPRINT to convert from PS to Sixel,
and then print that image - but that is getting beyond the scope of
mere mortals like me to understand.
Cheers, Chris

286.5 | PSPRINT only supports LN03-PLUS | IOSG::NEWLAND | Richard Newland, IOSG, REO1-D/4A | Wed Mar 25 1992 17:26 | 18 |

It may not be a good idea because PSPRINT only supports LN03-PLUS
printers. LN03s, even with two additional memory cartridges, do not
have enough memory to handle a Sixel image produced by PSPRINT.

286.6 | Try Chapter 15 of DECwrite V2.0 UG | AKOCOA::RMOORE | Pray for Chinese people | Wed Apr 01 1992 00:06 | 17 |
| If you are using DECwrite Version 2.0 - get the User's Guide and read
Chapter 15 - much is said about WPL <--> DECwrite and you can
extrapolate to what you need to do within ALL-IN-1.
A few of us have been doing what is expressed in .0 for some time with
varying degrees of success - however the referenced reading goes the
extra mile to explain the whys and wherefores for doing certain things.
It specifically talks about the differences between one way converts
and the need to go back and forth which the author of this note
requires. I encourage your reading the chapter - if you don't have the
guide see if you can read it on Bookreader.
If none of this works - send me some mail and I will extract that
chapter from a .PS file and send it to you - but please try the other first.
