263.0. "Express mail safe under V3.0?" by LEMAN::REGINA (Carrie's in the carrot land) Tue Mar 17 1992 15:00

    Can express mail be safely used with ALL-IN-1 V3.0 or
    are the reason to disable it under previous versions
    of ALL-IN-1 still valid?

    Thanks
    Regina

    What were the reasons to disable it in previous versions? the only
    reason I know of is the System performance impact.

    Since MAIL didn't change much in V3.0, the answer might still be yes,
    but...

    Yours Curiously,

263.2wrong mail deliveredLEMAN::REGINACarrie's in the carrot landTue Mar 17 1992 16:448
    It had something to do with 2 same filenames created and then
    mails interchanged (aka delivered to wrong recipient), which
    would cause nasty surprises.

    Maybe OA$FCV prevents this now. But I'd rather prefer a
    confirmation from s.o. in the know, before I enable it again.

263.3I think it's safeAIMTEC::WICKS_AVote Bill'n'Opus for a weirder USATue Mar 17 1992 16:5213
    regina,

    I always practice 'safe' mail and I would consider EXPRESS to be much
    safer than SECOND CLASS which does some strange things when delivered
    to non ALL-IN-1 recipients.

    Perhaps you could expand on these rumours you heard so as to prevent
    the wrong impression being given to the greater noting public?

    Regards,

263.4Can't find proof anymore...LEMAN::REGINACarrie's in the carrot landThu Mar 19 1992 09:2217
    Andrew,

    it was not rumours, but it is some time ago. We a recommendation
    from MTS to remove the Express option. For the life of me I cannot
    find it anymore in the old notesfiles, I don't know where
    EURMTS lives these days, if still alive, and I in general delete
    mail older than 1 year. So, I have nothing to show you.

    It was definitely not my intention to have my favourite product
    make a bad/wrong impression! I guess the problem has been solved,
    and will enable express mail again on our systems for V3.0.

    regards,
    Regina

    Hi,

    	I do not know whether this will help jog memories, but see note
    2569 in all-in-1_v24. A customer of mine had a specific problem of
    express mail going down a big black hole in v2.3, so this may be what
    you are referring to.

263.6EXPRESS OK here ...ATLANA::SHERMANDebt Free!Thu Mar 19 1992 14:5018
   Hi Regina,

   I do vaguely remember what you are talking about with respect to the
   EXPRESS mail bit. I don't think the request came from MTS, more likely
   from your MTS Cluster Sorter management (EURMTS?), probably due to the
   immediate connection to the router from the sender sending via EXPRESS,
   and the resultant consumption of available network links.

   Like Andrew, I like to practice 'safer' mail; we have been participating
   in DIAMOND Field Testing since mid-November and many of our users don't
   know any other way but EXPRESS to send their correspondence, and we have
   had no problems with them doing it. (Personally, I'm in favor of faking
   everyone out by making EXPRESS either a NoOp or equivalent to FIRST_CLASS,
   but that's because of the EXPRESS abuse.)

   Hth,

	Ron
