235.0. "After BL122D: How to access master DICs?" by LEMAN::REGINA (Carrie's in the carrot land) Fri Mar 13 1992 11:30

    Can some kind soul tell me how I can access my french and
    other master dictionaries after the upgrade to BL122D? The dictionary
    files are no longer installed by the startup file, can someone
    explain how all this works now? (I installed them by hand but
    it doesn't seem to change anything)

    The Master.dat is created in the user account with only AMERICAN.

    DATASPELL.DAT and DECSPELL.DAT are full of information about other
    languages.

    I have posted this here, because it is after an ALL-IN-1 upgrade.

    Thanks and regards
    Regina

    I don't suppose you'll think me kind when you read this answer, but
    anyway...

    The dictionaries required for V3.0 are completely different from those
    used in earlier versions.

    So if you had anything other than the standard dictionary for your
    language, then you need to obtain the V3.0 equivalent version and get
    it installed. Either as a part of this installation, or manually, you
    then need to add some lines to a file called LOOKUP.DAT in the
    directory pointed to by the LCI$LEXICONS logical. Then the
    dictionaries will magically reappear.

    PS Don't ask me what the "process" is for geting these new
    dictionaries, I would guess that was a Product Management question, and
    PM aren't renowned for their presence here :-)
235.2Le Bill de Colquitt?AIMTEC::WICKS_AVote Bill'n'Opus for a weirder USAMon Mar 16 1992 17:1117
    Regina,

    To add to what GAP said the dictionaries changed drastically between
    WPS-PLUS v3.x and WPS-PLUS v4.x so a lot of customers who upgraded
    to use the WPS-PLUS v4 for ALL-IN-1 v2.4 option kit to get the sexy
    new proportional printing and stuff were not too happy (an
    understatement) when they lost their legal and medical dictionaries.

    You might try asking your question in the WPS-PLUS conference.

    also since you aren't in the U.S contacting product management might
    not be too easy - Is there an ALL-IN-1 product manager for France?

    Regards,

235.3will try WPS-PLUS as wellLEMAN::REGINACarrie's in the carrot landTue Mar 17 1992 09:2517
    Well,

    I sent a mail to Mister Colquitt, but the other side of the pond is
    far away so an answer might take some time ;-).

    I don't know of any country product managers, anyway in Switzerland
    we belong to DACH (all german), but as the western part is talking
    french I never really know who likes to care for us!!!

    However, I still feel that the release notes or installation guide
    of ALL-IN-1 should mention this, so that lexicon kit research can be
    done as prerequesite instead of hot life repair.

    regards,
    Regina

    I made a lot of fuss about this with Product Management, in order to
    ensure that "a process was put in place" to update existing customers
    with the new format lexicons.

    Perhaps they put something in the SPD?

235.5WPS-PLUS 493.3 is the solutionLEMAN::REGINACarrie's in the carrot landTue Mar 17 1992 16:113
    If it is of any help to someone else: WPS-PLUS note 493.3 is
    just what I was looking for (note written after my initial
    thorough scanning of existing notes ;-)...). /rhr

    Look at MAGIC::WPS-PLUS. note 405. It gives the location of the
    internal FT version of the new lexicons.
