229.0. "Upgrade problems with SMBSRVSHR (VMS V5.5)" by NEWVAX::SHEINBERG (Reda,DCO,DTN:341-2387) Fri Mar 13 1992 04:06

I am trying to UPDATE ALL-IN-1 after upgrading from MSG Router V3.0 to
MSG Router V3.2

I have already upgraded successfully from ALL-IN-1 V2.4. Installation
is complaining about a logical SMBSRVSHR, I tried
$DEASS/SYSTEM SMBSRVSHR

Get error message logical not defined.

Tried DEASS/USER SMBSRVSHR still no go.

<Q 1 What is SMBSRVSHR? ANd How do I get rid of it so I can do the UPDATE

"SMBSRVSHR" [user] = "SYS$SHARE:SMBSRVSHR_OLD.EXE" (LNM$SYSTEM_TABLE)

<Q 2 Why do I have to UPDATE ALL-IN-1 just because I upgraded MSG Router and
added DDS?

Any clues

Appreciated

229.1Group Table, I think...IOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeFri Mar 13 1992 09:217
SMBSRVSHR is defined by the WordPerfect (I hope I got the spelling
right :-) ) in a Group logical table - I think!

To be sure, do $SHO LOG/TABLE=* SMBSRVSHR from a suitably privieleged
account, and after ignoring all the job tables, you should see it.

Reda,

I don't understand Question 2.. If you all wanted to do was upgrade
from MR v3.0 to MR v3.2 why did ALL-IN-1 get involved.

Of course since it's Friday and my brain is trashed I may be confused.

229.4UPDATE Saga continuesNEWVAX::SHEINBERGReda,DCO,DTN:341-2387Sat Mar 14 1992 15:1123
The ALL-IN-1 doc says you need to UPDATE if you add message router. I
tried to just relink ALL-IN-1. But it never would ask me the question
whether I wanted Directory Services so I knew of nothing else to do but
reupdate ALL-IN-1. The link procedure said I did not have Mail
Directory access.

Was there another way? I wish there was because I am still trying to
UPDATE. In fact I now have another problem. My UPDATE some how got
disconnected and left ALL-IN-1 in a funky state. It had built the
ALL-IN-1 files in [SYSUPD.A1030...] however I believe our lat got
disconnected and so did my update while I was at lunch. I had to manually
delete all the
[SYSUPD.A1030...] files... However although I can now get back into
ALL-IN-1 I can not stop ALLIN1, Thus the UPDATE procedure complains
that ALLIN1 is not stopped and the installation is going to fail.

When I try to run SDA from the ADM menu in the ALLIN1 account I get the
error USERAGENT form is not available. Is there any other way
to stop ALL-IN-1? Or do I need to restore ALL-IN-1 from BACKUP.

Direction appreciated. (Glad this is not at a customer site!)

229.5Try the SHUTDOWN functionSIOG::T_REDMONDThoughts of an Idle MindSat Mar 14 1992 15:3424
You do need to relink ALL-IN-1 if you add Message Router. This is
required to make MAILbus known to ALL-IN-1. I think the subject is well
covered in the old V2.4 conference on OAWEGO. Setting the logical
OA$DDS_PRIME to be 1 (or 2) will probably link in DDS, but this is a
guess on my part.

Doing an upgrade (from V2.4 to V3.0) over lunch is brave. Doing it on a
terminal that might be disconnected is braver still. You must have some
system to be able to complete the upgrade during lunchtime, or you must
have some very long lunch hours!

Can you use the SHUTDOWN function to shutdown ALL-IN-1?

From any menu in the Manager's account try:

<SHUTDOWN "12:30a", "Upgrading to ALL-IN-1 V3.0", "14:00", "10"

where 12:30a is the time when the shutdown is to take place (it must
be in the future), the next symbol is the message for users, "14:00" is
the time for an automatic restart, and "10" is the number of minutes
before the shutdown to start notifying users.

By the way, if WordPerfect is installed on your V2.4 system (as
indicated by the SMBSRVSHR shareable image being pointed to by a system
logical name), do you mind blowing it away by upgrading to V3.0? I
don't believe that there is a WordPerfect kit for ALL-IN-1 V3.0 yet,
and I doubt whether the integration that they have will survive an
upgrade. You may have to do some manual work afterwards to piece
together the integration....

Just a thought, Tony
229.7And I thought the book was ALWAYS rightAIMTEC::WICKS_AVote Bill'n'Opus for a weirder USASun Mar 15 1992 19:0320
Reda,

If the book really does say that you need to relink to add Message
Router then the book is WRONG.

To add support for the Transfer Service all you need to do is change
the appropriate flags in A1CONFIG - add the mailbox in MRMAN and then
run A1V30START. A relink is not needed in this case because the
modules needed to talk to the Transfer Service are ALWAYS linked in.
(take a look at A1LINK.COm if you don't believe me)

To add support for the Directory Service you must follow the procedure
documented in the Mail Managemnt Guide. This basically involves
setting the OA$DDS_PRIME logical in the SYSTEM table in EXECUTIVE mode
then relinking and then add the Useragent?Subscriber objects in MBMAN
and running a couple of scripts.

229.8More on UPDATE problemsNEWVAX::SHEINBERGReda,DCO,DTN:341-2387Mon Mar 16 1992 03:1516
Quite frankly I donot know where the WordPerfect reference came from.
This is an inhouse system and we really never used WordPerfect. No one
remembers installing it. However we have had a lot of different people
on NEWVAX and I suppose it is possible that someone tried to install
WordPerfect. So we definitely don't care about WordPerfect, Tony.

I will try your hints. Actually it's taking about 8-9 hours on a
Micro-Vax 3900. I wasn't sure how long an UPDATE would take. The
book says you have to UPDATE ALL-IN-1 if you install Message Router
later.

[See Chapt 4-5 4.1.2.2 ORder of Installation]

229.9Now MAIL problemNEWVAX::SHEINBERGReda,DCO,DTN:341-2387Mon Mar 16 1992 13:5918
I was able to UPDATE ALL-IN-1 V3.0 successfully. The problem I have
now is with mail. Anytime I try to CREATE mail I get the message
USERAGENT form not found. Also from MUA I can not but a Y in Mail
Directory field. SHouldn't I beable to do this since I added mail
directory ?

I ran the Post Installation procedures again.

I then ran the script DO OA$LIB:USERAGENT_POST to set up Mail
Directory functionality and I got message USERAGENT form not found,
SUBSCRIBER form not found. I also restarted ALL-IN-1.

How do I recover these forms.

Any direction etc appreciated.

229.10Sure the logical is set?? Right Image running?IOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeMon Mar 16 1992 16:217
I don't think there's really a USERAGENT form at all. It's just us
telling you a firendly ( :-) ) way that DDS isn't there. Check that you
have the logical defined /SYSTEM /EXEC to be 1 or 2 and that the images
you linked *WHILST THAT LOGICAL WAS DEFINED* are the ones that you are
currently executing!

229.11Problem is VMS V5.5 not WordPerfectNEWVAX::SHEINBERGReda,DCO,DTN:341-2387Thu Mar 19 1992 20:1412
The SMBSRVSHR logical had nothing to do with WordPerfect. We had a problem
with our print queues on our VMS V5.5-A system and found out it had to do
with SMSBSRVSHR not being assigned to SYS$SHARE:SMBSRVSHR_OLD.EXE. This
assignment is apparently necessary so you can use the old queue functionality
under VMS V5.5. Thus deassigning SMBSRVSHR is probably not the best solution.

So you might want to change the title of this note to Upgrading problems
with VMS 5.5A.
