224.0. "ALL-IN-1 x DDS" by VAXRIO::ALCIDES (Alcides Rocha EIS - Brazil) Thu Mar 12 1992 21:03

I'm configuring ALL-IN-1 with DDS suport and a strange problem occurs.
When I try to create or edit any All-in-1 account, a message is shown
saying that the account wasn't authenticated in the directory list.

When I try to run the script OA$LIB:USERAGENT_POST, which defines the
useragent All-in-1 and the subscriber MANAGER in the DDS, a message is
shown saying that the account is unknown to the directory list.

Using the MBMAN utility, I see that no update is done in the DDS
database. It looks like All-in-1 can't change DDS database, although it
    was configured to use DDS.

I have tried to reinstall Message Router and All-in-1 with a different
kit, but the problem is there. By the way, I'm using All-in-1
Portuguese V2.3 and Message Router V3.1B. I have already used the same
kit in other sites and it works fine.

    Any ideas?

224.1DDS Updates defered?IRONIC::KARPELand ALL-4-1!Thu Mar 12 1992 21:108
    Alcides,

Just a thought, but is DDS configured to do defered updates?

P.S. Hope everyone is happy and healthy in Rio!

    Alcides,

Apart from learning to spell the name of our favourite product
correctly - it's ALL-IN-1 the steps you need to take don't need
to involve reinstalling any portion of ALL-IN-1 or Message Router
    they are:

1: Delete the UA and SUBSCRIBER objects from MBMAN
    2: make sure UAPASSWRD.DAT in OA$DATA_SHARE and the Manager's
       profil.ddsid field are both blank.
3: Go to page 3-27 of the Mail Management Guide and follow steps 3
       onwards.

Hi Terry! Yes, I'm using deferred updates, but I can't see any problem
in doing this. Can you explain why you asked it?
Everything is OK in Rio. Carnival is over, and we're really begining a
new year. How are you doing? Send us the news from there.

    Re .2

    Hi Andrew,
I'll try your suggestion. I don't have much experience with ALL-IN-1
(spell check !) and didn't understand two things:

Do you mean DELETE or create a blank UAPASSWRD.DAT file?
How I make profil.ddsid field blank? Where is it?

    Thanks for your attention.

    Alcides.
224.4Terry got it rightAIMTEC::WICKS_AVote Bill'n'Opus for a weirder USAFri Mar 13 1992 17:4218
    Alcides,

Deleting or Creating a blank UAPASSWRD.DAT has the same effect.

You can blank out a DDSid using
    <WRITE CHANGE PROFIL .USER="ACCOUNT", DDSID = ""

Oh and looks as if Terry was right. I'm afraid your problem is almost
defined caused by using Deferred Updates so you can ignore my reply.

Deferred Update are not supported when using ALL-IN-1 somewhere in
Chapter 2 of the Release NOtes there's something about this.

    Please switch off Deferred Updates.

224.5WhyIRONIC::KARPELand ALL-4-1!Fri Mar 13 1992 22:2828
    Alcides,

As I understand it, when ALL-IN-1 is trying to make a DDS update, it is
also waiting to capture the unique DDSid assigned to each new DDS entry.
This value is placed in the UAPASSWRD file (for the ALL-IN-1 Manager
account) and used to validate that the ALL-IN-1 image is a valid "user"
of DDS. If the DDSid is not verified, you get a message like:

"Useragent is unknown in the mail directory"

    whenever you access electronic messaging.

When DDS is configured to defer updates, new entries are placed
in a queue and the actual database updates are made at a later time.
So, ALL-IN-1 can't capture the DDSid.

I think this is right. Hope this explains things.

By the way, the correct spelling of the "product" name is Terri!

    Obrigada,

    Terri K.

    Terri,

That sounds exactly like how it's supposed to work.

Next time I talk to myself i'll check that this was how
it was designed and implemented (:==:)

    Re .4

    Andrew,
I read your note after trying to follow your suggestions. I created a
UAPASSWRD.DAT file blank (using FDL). As I didn't know how to blank
profil.user field, I didn't change it. I made all the steps in the
manual, and after that I succeeded in updating the MANAGER account in
the DDS database. All new accounts created were succesfully updated
    too.
The only strange thing was that when trying to edit some accounts I had
created before, I didn't succeed in updating them in the DDS. As I
didn't need those accounts, I deleted them.
Now, I think there are no more problems.

Thanks a lot for your help.

    Re .5

    Terri,
Before trying the steps above, I tried to run DDS$DEFER job but nothing
happened. I din't known if it was a good idea, but I tried. Well, now
everything seems to be OK. Thank you very much for the attention and
    help.

Hope to see you soon. At breve !!!

    Alcides.

    Terri and ALL-IN-1. I'll never forget ...
