220.0. "Reading very wide mail messages" by ODIXIE::BIRCH () Thu Mar 12 1992 17:13

I have a show stopper that I could really use some input on how to resolve.

The application involves scanning a printed page on a Calera scanner which
is OCRed and deposited in a PCSA file service. It is then picked up by an
ALL-IN-1 process and delivered to a user as text mail message.

The problem is the documents that are scanned normally exceed 132 columns of
text. The ALL-IN-1 read functions are limited to 132 (using Gold E).

I have noticed that if I file text, edit, and then change the ruler I can
"Shift" over to see the remainder of the text, so I can see some
possibilities in an edit mode, but I would need to find a way to
automatically file the text, change the ruler, edit in a read only mode, and
have a graceful exit.

So basically I am looking for some ideas to make it easy for a user to read
a very wide received mail message, probably using a horizontal scrolling
technique.

Thanks Malcolm

    Malcolm,

When reading a mail message or document, you can use GOLD RIGHT ARROW
to shift right by 8 characters, and GOLD LEFT ARROW to shift left 8
characters. Also the option RM takes you to the right margin of the
document (use LM to get to the left margin).
