| The customization is probably JANCLEAN, a forerunner of the MAIL
JANITOR utility. IS should be able to run the script (JANCLEAN.SCP)
interactively on your account (or maybe you can do it, try <DO
JANCLEAN) and see what happens. Turn trace mode on before you try.

133.3 | Another possibility ... | ATLANA::SHERMAN | Debt Free! | Fri Feb 28 1992 19:51 | 14 |
| Hi Nick,
Here's another possibility: do you have a Nickname entry named "ME"?
If so, the CleanMail/JanClean-originated message in your Wastebasket
will have a status of "SENT" but you won't have the corresponding entry
in your INBOX (which seems to be the behaviour you described in .0).
This is because the old JANCLEAN addressed the notification message to
"ME", one of those personal pronouns (like "I") that are usually *not*
ambiguous. 8^)

I think you've cracked it for me.
Yes I do have a nickname translation for ME and it isn't me. So
there's someone in the US (Mike Engbrock - hence the Nickname) getting
mail about my deletions in Europe.
Thanks

133.5 | It wasn't the Nickname = ME ! | PAOIS::HILL | Another migrant worker! | Fri Mar 06 1992 08:13 | 15 |
| Ron's comment seemed so logical that I promptly deleted the ME
nickname I was using.
I also spoke with the person this applied to and he gets lots of
mail from all over Digital telling him that there is mail in the
WASTEBASKET of other people!
But it's still happening that my Janitor's mail is incomplete and
gets dumped straight in the WASTEBASKET without being sent. For
the time being I'm setting my entry point to ALL-IN-1 to be an
Index of the WASTEBASKET.
Anyone got any more ideas! Please!!

133.7 | Tried it? Sort of! | PAOIS::HILL | Another migrant worker! | Fri Mar 06 1992 12:38 | 13 |

Yes I tried my part of .2
Result was "You are not privileged to enter ALL-IN-1 interactively"
One of our IS support people has tried to reproduce the problem in his
own account, without success. His attitude was that as he couldn't
reproduce it, the problem was probably an aberration and certainly
didn't deserve further investigation by him. Therefore if it happened
again I'd have to live with it as a feature of my account.

133.8 | Here's a method to try | BUFFER::VICKERS | Winners take action not keep score | Sat Mar 07 1992 01:43 | 33 |
| Your IS person certainly deserves a special award for his/her/its
concern for his/her/its customers. I suggest giving him/her/it a job
in marketing working under mister hodges where this same concern for
customers is widespread.
Here is the end-user way to implement the advice given in .2:
Create a UDP (call it IS_IT or whatever) via the WP UD C menu choices
from any ALL-IN-1 menu.
The UDP should contain the following two lines:
.FUNCTION OA$TRA_SET SCRIPT,SYMBOL,MESS,LOG
.FUNCTION DO JANCLEAN
Invoke the UDP by pressing DO or GOLD U from a menu and watch the
effect. The information traced (from the first statement) will be
placed into a file called A1TRACE.LOG in your ALL-IN-1 directory.
You'll want to immediately exit from ALL-IN-1 to close the log file
unless you understand how to use the trace control form via GOLD % (I
am suspecting that you're not an ALL-IN-1 programmer type person).
Hopefully, there will be a clue in the trace log file which will help
solve the problem. I recommend against posting the entire file here as
it may be quite large which would cause wasted disk space and hurt the
two people strange enough to use the death windows interface to VAX
Notes. If you wish help on getting through the log fie either mail to
me and others answering this note or give a pointer to it (after
setting the proper file protection to it and the directory path).
Hang in there,
don

133.9 | Tried and.... failed | PAOIS::HILL | Another migrant worker! | Mon Mar 09 1992 09:05 | 25 |
| Don
WRT IS, it would be my pleasure to draft the letter for their 'brown
envelope', but I suspect I'm not going to get the chance!
I tried the UDP and all went according to plan until I ran it....
"error opening script file JANCLEAN"
I then tried changing the name in the UDP to CLEANMAIL, so then I
got...
"error opening script file CLEANMAIL"
Now what?
Nick
PS:
More WRT IS...
The are UNABLE to transfer ALL-IN-1 accounts for staff across national
boundaries, and within the national boundary they can only transfer a
maximum of 200 documents out of a gross limit of 1000.

133.10 | SYS_JANCLEAN? | SAHQ::WOLFE | John Wolfe - (404)-924-6463 | Mon Mar 09 1992 13:53 | 15 |

Hi
Could your system be running SYSTOOL? Two or three years ago, the ASCOT
group in Europe took a copy of the V2.3 version of the toolkit we run on many
nodes in the US, and made some modifications and produced an ASCOT
customization which they called SYSTOOL. At that time, the Cleanmail script
was called SYS_JANCLEAN - you might try that script name in your UDP.
If not, surely your caring and sensitive IS organization could tell you
the name of the script?

| It's me again :-)
Yesterday when I ran my UDP invoking SYS_JANCLEAN it ran, but didn't
throw anything away.
This morning I arrived to find that IS's run of SYS_CLEAN had
occured in the early hours of the morning.
It had thrown lots of stuff into the WASTEBASKET, had prepared the
following elements of a mail, but had put it into the WASTEBASKET
too, without sending it.
What do I do now? Apart from becoming homicidal towards IS?

133.13 | LANGUAGE? | SAHQ::WOLFE | John Wolfe - (404)-924-6463 | Tue Mar 10 1992 13:49 | 8 |

Hi
Without knowing what the script looks like this is nothing more than
a guess but check to see if you have a LANGUAGE defined. Do a
US SWC <next screen> and make sure the language field is defined.
John - from the sensitive and caring IS in the US :-).

133.14 | LANGUAGE? oh yes I've got a LANGUAGE | PAOIS::HILL | Another migrant worker! | Tue Mar 10 1992 16:40 | 9 |

I've checked and as I thought the LANGUAGE is set, to ENGLISH.
So far as I can tell only one thing has changed on my account, and that
was the short period that I had a Nickname = ME but that's been removed
now.

133.15 | so we need a trace from when the actual sys cleaner runs | SHALOT::GEERDES | | Thu Mar 12 1992 21:27 | 16 |
| Create a UDP
.FU COPY "OA$LIB:SYS_JANCLEAN.SCP" "OAUSER:SYS_JANCLEAN.SCP"
Now put your OA$TRA_SET functions from your other UDP as the first line
in OAUSER:SYS_JANCLEAN.SCP. If uou dont have dcl access use DT to get the
document and transfer it back.
Also find out where the .EXIT's are in the script, and place a
OA$TRA_SET OFF,ALL,OFF,LOG in front of thoise .EXIT's.
or if you have troubles doing that, post your of the file here
and ask someone to do it for you.
If I'm correct, the next time it runs it will use this file and leave
a trace in your directory.
