92.1 | Check SYS$SYSTEM:OA$FORMATTER.EXE | IOSG::NEWLAND | Richard Newland, IOSG, REO1-D/4A | Tue Feb 25 1992 10:36 | 17 |
| A couple of things to try:
1. Get a directory of SYS$SYSTEM:OA$FORMATTER.EXE and check that there is a
new version of OA$FORMATTER.EXE. OA$FORMATTER is relinked in order to
create a new version with the WPS-PLUS V4.0 formatter routine.
2. Run OA$FORMATTER interactively
$ RUN SYS$SYSTEM:OA$FORMATTER
If there are image activation problems the error messages displayed may
provide a clue to what the problem is. If the image runs it will
hibernate, so type CTRL/Y to abort it.

92.3 | DECW$XLIBSHR mismatch | UTRTSC::BOSMAN | We're just sugar mice in the rain | Tue Feb 25 1992 13:10 | 19 |
| Hi,
More info on this one. I was able to catch the imagename causing the
trouble using SET CLASS etc.
It turned out that DECW$XLIBSHR is troubling us. Some Image
Identification Information:
 image name: "DECW$XLIBSHR"
 image file identification: "DECWINDOWS V5.4"
 link date/time: 25-MAY-1990 20:05:34.95
 linker identification: "05-05"
Maybe I should ask this question in another conference. Please tell me
so.
Sjaak (The lognumber of this call is 1313, but I'm not supersticious (I
think)).

92.4 | Question: | IOSG::MARCHANT | Only parrots succeed | Tue Feb 25 1992 22:55 | 6 |
| Which Motif do you have - DECwindows Motif V1.0, or the ancient Motif V1.0
layered product?
The DECW$XLIBSHR image you have is not a Motif version.
Paul.

92.5 | DW V1.0-910630 | UTRTSC::BOSMAN | We're just sugar mice in the rain | Wed Feb 26 1992 07:27 | 6 |
| Hi,
How can I see that? The Image Identification Information of (for
example) DECW$XMLIBSHR is "DW V1.0-910630" (This is Motif, isn't it?).

You have DECwindows Motif V1.0 (but see later.)
Digital licences Motif from OSF, and the Motif from OSF has its own
version number. Digital sold a `Motif developers kit' which contained
Motif V1.0 (that's the OSF version number), and later Motif V1.1 (again
the OSF version number.) When DECwindows was moved from being XUI based
to Motif based, Digital used Motif V1.1.3. However this was the first
`DECwindows Motif' and so the version of *DECwindows Motif* is V1.0. The
current IFT of DECwindows Motif V1.1 is based on OSF's Motif V1.2. So,
you don't have `Motif V1.0', but `DECwindows Motif V1.0' instead. There
is a big big difference between the two (not only in functionality, but
also in how they were made available on the system.)
Since you have DECwindows Motif on your system, the DECW$XLIBSHR image
should also be a DECwindows Motif image. Since yours isn't, I suspect
that your SYS$MANGLER didn't do the VMS V5.5 upgrade correctly, leaving
you with a mixture of DECwindows V2.1 and DECwindows Motif V1.0 images.

92.7 | Hard to remember ... | UTRTSC::BOSMAN | We're just sugar mice in the rain | Fri Feb 28 1992 07:43 | 15 |
| Ok Paul,
Many thanks for your clear explanation. I already asked the customer if
everything went ok with the upgrade. He affirmed that.
What I think is strange is that the problem (according to the customer)
appeared *after* the WPS-PLUS 4.0 installation. But maybe the link
procedure for OA$FORMATTER under WPS-PLUS V3. doesn't include this
image.
I advised the customer to get the appropriate image from the
MOTIF-savesets, to see if that will solve the problem. But I will ask
again about the V5.5 upgrade.
