I did not install ALL-IN-1 V3.0, the QA group did, and I only got
involved because they are having problems. I asked the QA installer
and she did not run the CART report ... sorry.

Did you run the CART? If so, what elements were reported as mandatory
changes and how did you resolve them? Also, what was in the CART site
elements report?
Also, are there any OAINI scripts or command procedures operating which
either change OA$FILE_SEARCH_ORDER or open form libraries that are
interfering with CM+?

I didn't actually want all of that, but it's my fault, I should have
phrased my question more clearly!!
I was guessing that perhaps you had customised versions of some of the
actual code of CM, which were incompatible with the new system. In the
SITE_LIB directory I see you have a number of customised CM .SCPs etc.
Perhaps that's what's causing the problem?

| We are working this situation off-line. There are a very few ALL-IN-1
sites running CMA so the problem (if there are any) will probably not
impact the customer base.

Sorry, but I beg to differ. I don't know about Europe, but there are a
large number of customers here in the US who are using the System for
Executive Services (SES), which has (as you know) always had CMA as a
prerequisite. I know for a fact that some of them are very large (and
very loud) customers who's account reps wouldn't agree that this "will
probably not impact the customer base."
These customers probably, for the most part, don't even know they
*have* CMA (since the SES installations have, at our urging, been done
by Digital specialists). They also probably don't know they've been
using CMA whenever they used CM. I can't help feeling these poor folks
are in for a big surprise when they try to upgrade to V3.0. I fear
the Atlanta CSC will also be surprised when they start getting calls
about it.
My understanding is that the ALL-IN-1 V3.0 installation procedure
should flag you if you have CMA installed, and give you the option of
stopping. Sadly this feature doesn't work, and this is *definitely* a
problem.

| I agree with Paul.
Given that the current version of the Release Notes directs customers
to contact their local CSC for the said document then if that document
does not contain the correct information we should be told as it is us and
not Engineering who will I suspect be getting phoned.
I hope that the many fine people in Charlotte will let us know what
happens...

I know this doesn't count since its ONLY internal machines but we have
about 100 sites using pieces of CMA. We have (without much luck) attempted to
convince the powers that be that a supported non-manual upgrade path from CMA
is required for the last several months. (Right Andrew?)
We believe we have a COM that will take care of most of what needs to
be done for OUR sites which we will be testing next week. This is designed to
be used after the installation when you discover that CM+ doesn't work real
well :-). Here's my list of what needs to be done (If I have missed anything,
I'm sure I will be corrected).
1. Blow away CMA - ie delete all customized CM* elements - doing this
from DCL means you also need to delete the CM$SITELOG records and
for some cases fix the CM$SDC records (MODIFIED = Y).
2. Copy data from CM_MAF.DAT (CMA data file) to the new CM$APP and the
CM$MAF data files. You should find that the upgrade installation only
partly filled in these files. For SES, which uses all of CMA, you
probably have to copy data from the other CM_*.DAT to the corresponding
CM$*.DAT files.
3. Add appropriate records to CM$AUTH$LOCATIONS - This depends somewhat
on your application directory structure and the logicals you intend to
use. We are renaming our .SITE directory structure to conform to CM+
(eg [SYSTIDY.SITE.LIB_TIDY_SHARE]) and will stay w the OAX* logicals for
our first Diamond release.

| Within the context of 17,000 sites upgrading to ALL-IN-1 V3.0, the 100
internal and the several hundred SES sites are not a large number to
have to deal with. It is the responsibility of the groups who decided
to use CMA to provide upgrades to their products. We (the CM team) are
quite happy to work with those teams to smoothen things out, which
indeed is what we have been doing with people like John Wolfe since the
middle of last year. Our problem is, of course, to walk the line
between preservation of the CM+ design concepts and implementation, and
the needs of CMA. As CMA is being eliminated by CM+ I don't think we
should bend too much, but this is a very biased output.
Also, we have written a document for the CSC and ADW has a copy of it.
Perhaps it's not perfect, but it is our view on how CMA should move to
CM+. We've based the advice contained in the document on the valuable
feedback that John Wolfe has given us over the past few months. If the
document needs to be modified then we will do so, especially in the
light of the experience gained in our discussions with Charlotte.
Moving forward sometimes causes pain. We are experiencing some of the
pain of making lots of functionality available in CM+ right now. No
doubt we will continue to receive feedback, and we'll do our best to
react. But perhaps it is worth reflecting on the fact that we don't
have a lot of resources working on CM+ and those we have are stretched
very thin.

Results of off-line talks, and some answers.

Jill did additional checking and she found that the behaviour shown above
was due to a missing CM$SITEHIST.DAT.
The reason for missing was a problem during the upgrade installation with
CM$MAF (John, this is the same problem as you described). Although only Base
form libraries are used during the ALL-IN-1 installation, ALL-IN-1 is started
via A1V30START.COM during the installation, and in case of CM all form
libraries (including SITECM.FLB) are opened. the CMA version of CM$MAF was
used, which didn't know about the OA application. Therefore the
OA$SITE_DEV_SHARE: and OA$SITE_DEV_ENGLISH: logicals weren't defined, and the
Postinstallation procedure to copy V2.* CM_SITEHIST.DAT to the new V3.0
CM$SITEHIST.DAT failed (Message number 'CM025' during the installation). The
CMA conversion guide has been corrected for this situation, in that the advise
to rename SITECM.FLB during the upgrade installation has been replaced by a
pre-requisite.

Forms can be part of a FORM_SET. When one form is manipulated (and changes
library (e.g. from CM.FLB to SITECM.FLB)), then the other forms should be put
into the other library also. The new dataset OA$FORM_INFO can do this check
(only if a form has Named Data), but the check is optional (See field 'Check
form sets' in the CM profile (options CM SCE SWC)).
When the form is checked the form is compiled first, and because the symbols in
the form don't exist any longer, messages will be generated (just as when you
would call the form from the ALL-IN-1 menu).
However, you're not interested in these messages, so they should be suppressed.
I'll report this.

This is the result of the dynamic menu stucture of CM. The menu options on some
of the CM menus (e.g. CM$MAIN) are context dependent. The context is the
element type of the element currently selected. Every time you enter the
CM$MAIN menu, the menu 'Scrolled region' is refreshed, which results in the
output, written on the screen by e.g. <OA$FBT_LIST_TREE, is partly overwritten.
