Note 716.0 4 Quick Install Questions 1 reply
ODIXIE::EVGONZALEZ 26 lines 18-FEB-1992 16:29
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We have recently negotiated with FSU (Florida State University) to use
their Computer Research Facility as a local DEC training facility.
One of the first classes we'll be offering in April is ALL-IN-1 IOS
V3.0. They have a VAX 6210 right now, and I'll be installing the
ALL-IN-1 on it.
A few quick questions:
1.) Does the VAX 6210 have to be down to users during the install?
If not, will they notice any degradation -- should I plan to
install in on the weekend? :(
2.) What is the minimum/recommended memory configuration for IOS V3.0?
3.) Same as #2, but with regard to disk space?
4.) They are NOT running V2.4 and are scared because they've heard the
"ALL-IN-1 resource hog" bit. How can I reassure them? Via tuning
the system after installation?
THANKS -- This will be my first "unassisted" ALL-IN-1 installation.

1) Like all layered product installations, it's safer to throw everyone
off the system whilst installing ALL-IN-1. So get a weekend free!
2) You need to look in the performance info (Pointer in A1INFO I think)
for this.
3) See the installation Guide for the full story, which I'm sure
you'll be reading before the installation anyway. It's about 100k
blocks in *VERY* round numbers.
4) What Gas mileage do you get from a Cadillac? I bet it's worse than
a compact.... It depends on how much you use it. If it's badly set up
and the system is badly set up, then it will use as much of the system
resources as you'd expect from a *VERY* large application. Don't judge
from the performance of the average internal system, which are mostly
underconfigured and badly setup.
