25.0. "WPS-PLUS 4.0 option installation failed" by MLNCSC::MANENTI () Mon Feb 17 1992 16:56

	Hi,

	I'm trying to install the "WPS-PLUS v4.0 Option for
	ALL-IN-1 v2.4" kit on my system running VMS 5.4-3.

	In the "release and installation notes" paragraph 3.9,
	is specified that in the system or Alternate Working
	Disk, there must be at least 82500 free blocks.

	Wanting to use the AWD option (having not enough space on the 
	system disk) I specified the following command:

$ @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL OAW024 $3$DUB249:[A1UPDATE] OPTIONS N,AWD=$3$DUA2:

	but the installation failed. Follows the log file produced.
	
	On dua2 I have 114000 free blocks!
	
	Any ideas about this problem?

    I'm afraid this is a case of RTFM:
    
    Here's an extract from the Cover Letter that I extracted from STARS.
    
                  o  VMSINSTAL Alternate Working Disk (AWD) option re-           
                      striction                                                   
                                                                                  
                      The VMSINSTAL AWD option documented in the Release          
                      and Installation notes for WPS-PLUS for ALL-IN-1            
                      cannot be used.                                             
                                                                                  
                      The only workaround is to free off space on the sys-        
                      tem disk or to move ALL-IN-1 from a system disk to a        
                      target disk so that there is sufficient free space on       
                      the system disk to complete the installation.

    It turns out that VMSINSTAL doesn't adjust its system disc space check
    to allow for the AWD being specified. In V3.0 we went to some trouble
    to get round this.
    
    You *could* hack either VMSINSTAL or the Option installation procedures
    to get round this if you really can't find any space on the System
    Disc.

    Hi.
    
    Any ideas on why this might've happened?  I really was very careful in
    checking all pre-installation requirements (too numerous to list here).
    
    Contrary to the message, SYS$UPDATE:A1PATCH$OAWLENGLISH024_REPORT.TXT
    did not exist when the installation finished.

    Thanks.  I promise I really really did read that, but it seemed to only
    be referring to K603 (after all, it is in a file named
    K603_COVER_LETTER.TXT).  It's a little misleading cuz it starts:

    But, silly me, the very last paragraph does say:

�                     repeat this exercise completely for the installation
�                     of the WPS-PLUS V4 OPTION.
    
    And, of course, I didn't repeat it.
