Hello : Customer Scenario : Dual Host Vax 4000/300, VMS 5.4 (DECW 2.1) The VAX is a CLIENT in a TCP/IP network. They want to replace (in certains condicions) an X-server by a local process (??) running in the same host, that emulates the DISPLAY environment (data structures, etc) but without fisical terminal. Is that possible ? Thanks for any suggestion. - J.Ramon

(1) Digital doesn't sell software that does this (2) With a source kit for the MIT X Window system, this could be written. It's X and anything is possible. (3) I, and I assume most participants in the conference, want to know what business problem is motivating your customer to attempt to do this and suggest an alternative way to get it done. | |||||

Our customer did not explain why he wants to this, but I assume he needs to use a low speed line (WAN, leased or X.25) and avoid as much as possible the X traffic over the line. I can't imagine other reasons. But any idea is wellcome !! |
