Hi, people... Under DW2, I customised my DECW$CLOCK.DAT file to give me a small clock in the bottom right hand corner of my screen displaying the date and time only without any menubar... I used the resource Clock.geometry: 90x40-0-0 to define the size and position of the window (and all was well) When I move to DW3 (Field test) I changed the definitions to have the DECW$CLOCK prefix and end up with DECW$CLOCK.geometry: 90x40-0-0 This does not do what I expected, instead it produces a window with a geometry of 120x130+904+734 Ie a window in the bottom right of the screen with size of 120*130. I cannot find a way of reducing the size of this window. Has a change been made to the clock software to hardcode minimum value or is there something I am missing? Appreciate some insight... Rgds, Graham

It appears that the Clock will save it's location and geometry settings pretty well by itself. Just position it where you want, use the Settings... option to make whatever adjustments you want, use the Save Settings... option to make these permanent, and your Clock will come up as you wanted it every time you invoke it. However, I am *not* able to make Clock get as small as you seem to want it. The minimum size I can get is, as you noted, 120x130. This is apparently a new restriction in V3. Perhaps you should QAR it! - Dave
3699.2 | You can't size it either... | GRAMPS::FORTIER | John Fortier | Wed Nov 21 1990 10:13 | 8 |
I've tried sizing the clock through the menu option but it always wants a minimum size. It just goes so far when I grab an edge to shrink it then it stops. Can anybody confirm this as a hardcoded "feature" or a bug? John

The clock has a minimum size defined in DECW$CLOCK.DAT: DECW$CLOCK.minWidth: 120 DECW$CLOCK.minHeight: 130 I belive that these values were chosen so that the clock could not be sized smaller than what would be usable when a menu bar was displayed. You can save the clock settings, edit DECW$CLOCK.DAT to remove these two lines, and you should be all set. (Hmmmm...removing the lines should work, but I had problems with that. What did just work for me was to modify the lines to give very small values: DECW$CLOCK.minWidth: 1 DECW$CLOCK.minHeight: 1 I will discuss the minimum size with the clock developer. tms

Tom... Many thanks for the input.. Changing the minimum values restores the behaviour I wanted (and had in V2) Rgds, Graham |
