(1) Get your window set up the way you want it to start up, but
don't worry about the privileges. Do fix the Layout dialog settings the
way you want them - in particular, the Directories setting.
(2) Then, select the Customize/SaveView dialog box. Turn off the
Directory and the Privileges toggle buttons - they will default to
the current (SYS$LOGIN) directory and the current (AUTHORIZE) privileges,
but make sure that the Directories(Layout) toggle is set.
You probably also want to set the WindowSize and WindowPosition toggles.
The settings corresponding to any toggles you do not set will be inherited
from the system-default Startup view shipped with FileView.
(3) Make sure that the NameOfView is "Startup", and click OK. This will
update your startup view so that directory and privileges will be take
from the account's AUTHORIZE settings.
(4) When you save a view, make sure that you only set the SaveView toggle
buttons for those settings you want to save in the view. Other settings
will remain unchanged when you restore the view. It sounds like you
have too many toggles set in some of your views.
[If you were to select Customize/SaveStartupView, this would be equivalent to
saving the "Startup" view with ALL the toggles set. You do not want
to do this, since you want some of the settings to default to the
system settings.]
--- To easily change one aspect of a previously saved view, do the following:
(1) Select Customize/SaveView to get the SaveView dialog box up.
(2) Then, select (from the Views menu) the saved view that you want to change.
The SaveView dialog box will be updated to show what is in the selected
saved view.
(2) Change toggles in the SaveView dialog box and any other dialog box, etc,
until you have them set the way you want, and then...
(3) Click Apply or OK in the SaveView dialog box to update the saved view.
You can also use this trick to create "similar" saved views, by changing
the NameOfView field in the SaveView dialog box.
