| I've seen cycling WSAn processes before. I think the problem
was down to not enough GBLPAGES and GBLSECTIONS.

I also ran into this (actually customer solved himself) after
many hours of dialing in. Customer had 19" monitor and only
installed the 100dpi fonts... Once he DECW$TAILOR'd *everything*
on (like he TOLD ME he did), it wall worked fine... Another
example of weirdness when you try to save space...

3675.3 | Yes, fonts could be the problem | STAR::VATNE | Peter Vatne, VMS Development | Mon Nov 19 1990 13:11 | 8 |
| Tailoring on only the 100 dpi fonts is not supported. You must tailor
on both 75 and 100 dpi fonts for 100 dpi screens. This is because some
applications require 75 dpi fonts.
However, it doesn't seem right that DECW$LOGINOUT should require 75 dpi
fonts, since it is such a crucial part of the system (and also one of
the more difficult to debug). I suggest you enter a QAR on this problem
so we can fix it for DECwindows V3.

Why?
Unsupported or no, I currently don't have any 75dpi fonts on my
workstation. (Well, I take that back, I found some DUTCH801_DECMATH*
fonts; wonder how they got there?) I don't seem to have problems with
DECW$LOGINOUT.

3675.5 | GBLPAGES is the likely culprit | STAR::VATNE | Peter Vatne, VMS Development | Mon Nov 19 1990 20:46 | 11 |
| Thanks for the experimental info on DECW$LOGINOUT with 100 dpi fonts.
Why do some applications require 75 dpi fonts? Because they have
hard-coded 75 dpi font names. As time has progressed, many of these
applications have been corrected, and in DECwindows V3 I expect we
will have fixed them all.
Now that I re-read the note, I realize that the noter in .2 is not
the same as the noter in .0, so the two problems may not be related.
I'm inclined to go with Ian's suggestion that the problem is not
enough GBLPAGES and/or GBLSECTIONS. I've certainly seen low values
of these parameters cause cycling of the WSAn processes.

| Well, Andy. Just out of interest, are you going to tell us what
the problem was?
