I have a customer (traditionally a Silicon Graphics guy) who is trying very hard to 'capture' a segment of his DECwindow screen, extracting it to an RGB file. The file is then used in some camera work. QUESTION: Can DECwindows do this? Silicon Graphics has a very simple utility that does what I have just described? If so, in what format is this file constructed? D. Stutson Wright-Patterson AFB

There is no built in utility/function that will write out a pixmap (RGB) file like there is for a bitmap (depth = 1). You use the call XGetImage to get the _raw_ data then you have to go from there. There does exist utility programs (and some hacks) that people have written that will generate several different output formats from screen captured data. You might want to check out the DW_EXAMPLES conference for these. I have some info on the IFF format if you are interested. It stores data in an RGB format. -=> Jim <=- |
